A clay bar is a specialized detailing tool that safely removes embedded contaminants from your vehicleā€™s paint that normal washing canā€™t touch. Things like brake dust, industrial fallout, tree sap, and road grime can become bonded to the surface over time.

Iron contamination is something a regular wash canā€™t remove. Tiny metal particles from brake dust, rail dust, and industrial fallout embed themselves into your vehicleā€™s paint over time. These particles can cause paint to feel rough, reduce gloss, and eventually lead to rust spots if left untreated. Thatā€™s why we use an iron remover during the decontamination process it chemically breaks down and removes those embedded contaminants before polishing or protecting the paint, helping restore a smoother, cleaner finish.

Weā€™re all about transparency, and this one didnā€™t come out how I wanted.

I tried multiple plastic restoration products on the faded trim, including going over the lower section multiple times. The reality is the trim was so heavily UV-damaged and oxidized that it had that dry, chalky, almost ā€œfiberglass-likeā€ texture at that point, itā€™s no longer just surface fading, itā€™s material breakdown.

Once plastic reaches that stage, restoration products can only do so much, and unfortunately it didnā€™t respond the way I expected.

Even so, we still completed a full iron decontamination and clay bar treatment, removing embedded contaminants and bringing the paint back to a smooth, clean finish.

Not every result is a dramatic transformation, but every job gets an honest one.
