Today, we honor Corey S. Thompsen, who proudly served 5 years with the Illinois State Police. Trooper Thompsen was killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of East Leverett Road and County Road 1300E in Champaign County. Trooper Thompsen was driving eastbound on East Leverett Road when a truck traveling southbound on Country Road 1300E entered the intersection, colliding with Trooper Thompsen's police motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Trooper Thompsen served with the Illinois State Police for five years. He is survived by his wife and parents. Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice.

National Move Over Day is observed annually on the third Saturday of October to remind drivers to slow down and move over for police, emergency responders, tow truck drivers, road maintenance crews, and stranded motorists working or stopped along the roadside.

In Illinois it’s also known as Scott’s Law. Tatman’s Towing is a strong advocate of SDMO and encourages you to promote the importance of this day to your kids, neighbors, coworkers and follow travelers.

Last weekend Tatmans Towing hosted two sessions of WreckMaster Inc. training to local tow companies and states as far away as New Mexico with each session sponsoring about a dozen students.

WreckMaster 2/3 focuses on operator awareness, Traffic Incident Management Area setup, wire rope design and correct hook placement, vehicle weight calculations, types of resistance (rolling vs damage) as well as weight transfer and techniques like the one-lane parallel upright maneuver.

WreckMaster 4/5 carries on into advanced techniques like working alongside recovery teams, vertical lift rigging, advanced tow hook-ups and boom/truck lifting capacity calculations including righting passenger cars in complex environments and uprighting tractor-trailers using single-lane parallel methods.

Both sessions involve classroom training with hands on demonstrations proving the techniques learned can be applied in real life situations. Congratulations to Kyle as one of Tatman's Towing's operators who received the Student of the Class award. Thank you to Nick Webb for his premier instruction and we look forward to hosting WreckMaster again in the near future.

Over the next 2 weeks, we will be conducting a couple of training sessions based around vehicle accident extrication. So if you see some "gently worn" vehicles sitting in our parking lot, they have a purpose!

Thank you to Tatman's Towing for donating the vehicles for the training sessions. And thank you to our members for the training work they will be putting in.

An absolutely beautiful day for a fundraising bike ride with BACA; Bikers Against Child Abuse. Tatman’s Towing once again blocked intersections for safe travels of about 100 miles through Champaign, Ford, McLean, DeWitt and Piatt counties.
