Honda dealers are "Totaling" motorcycles they can't fix!
Two bikes in the last month were "totaled" by SLC area Honda dealers who could not fix some simple electrical issues. One customer said the dealer charged$243 for their testing, find a burnt connector going to the rectifier. The dealer said the entire wiring harness needed to be replaced, but Honda no longer made harnesses for a 2001 650, and since eBay did not have one, the customer would have to total the bike. Also the rectifier was blown.
The owner was referred to us by Wright's cycle. We opened our boxes of connectors and rectifiers, and had it running in 2 hours for not much more than the dealer charged for an estimate.
We upgraded the rectifier, since Honda tends to use weak ones (I learned while working at Honda's US headquarters).
Last and not least, we identified what had burned out the connector and rectifier. The previous owner had installed LED under-lights but ran their wires, with no fuses, between the frame and seat, causing the wires to ground through until they shorted out. Check out the pictures for these issues.
I can fix the older bikes almost blindfolded, cause I grew up with them.
Call us for a second opinion when a Dealer can't, or won't fix your bike.
