When you’re running a high-mix, low-volume shop, flexibility matters.

Power Engineering & Manufacturing, LTD (PEM) needed a machine that could handle a wide range of parts, move quickly between setups, and open up new production capabilities.

The Hera 500 gave their team the capacity to run larger tooling and take on parts their previous hobber couldn’t accommodate, while giving operators a faster, intuitive path from setup to final checks.

The best conversations at .show weren't about machines. They were about problems. Internal teeth going out to a vendor because nobody wants to tie up the slow shaper for three weeks. A cutter getting half the parts per sharpening it used to. The old hobber nobody wants to part with, because everyone knows how to run it.

Those don't get solved in a week in Chicago, which is why we're still talking to a lot of the people we met there.

International Manufacturing Technology Show 2026 was a busy week, and a good one.

We spent it catching up with familiar faces, meeting new ones, talking through upcoming projects, working through workflow and capacity challenges, and hearing what is happening in shops across the industry.

The conversations at the booth usually go well beyond the machines. They are about where the industry is headed, the new applications everyone wants their parts in, and how we can connect the right people and ideas.

The Hera 30 is built for one job: cutting small gears, fast. It handles spur, helical, and straight bevel gears up to 20.3 DP on parts up to 40 mm diameter.

Its hob spindle runs at 10,000 rpm on dual direct-drive work spindles, and conversational programming makes setups quick. Gantry loading from a bowl-fed magazine runs parts in volume, even lights out, with Helios applications engineers a phone call away. Full CNC hobbing in 13 square feet, smaller than a standard skid.

Before we quote a hob, shaper cutter, or power skiving tool, our applications engineers run the numbers on your part: speeds, feeds, chip load, and cycle time. The tool gets designed around that process, in HSS or carbide, with a coating matched to your material and cutting speed.

When it dulls, we resharpen it in-house to AGMA AAA and recoat it, so the tenth regrind holds the same profile as the first.

Getting ready for International Manufacturing Technology Show has us reminiscing about our spring trip to South Korea.

In April we took a group of customers to SIMTOS in Seoul, then spent time at the YG Tech factory where our Hera and NEOPS machines are built. Walking the production floor with the people who will run these machines stateside, seeing the engineering and final builds up close, and watching run-offs offers a different kind of conversation than a spec sheet allows. And a week exploring Korea with customers turns business relationships into friendships.
