Porsche Mission S: the essence of the sports car reinterpreted

Strategic outlook: Porsche presents the next evolution of the brand's iconic design identity.

Distinctive exterior design: authentic, consequent and timeless design language with innovative design features.
Purist interior design focuses on the driver and the emotive driving experience.

Innovative Driver Experience: driver-focused symbiosis of analogue and digital controls and displays.

A glimpse into the future of sports cars: Porsche announces the development of a new mid-engined super sports car platform.
As part of its “Sportwagenschmiede 35” strategic realignment, Porsche is presenting a forward-looking vision model as a first glimpse of the brand's evolved design identity.

“A Porsche must be recognizable as a Porsche at first glance,” Dr. Michael Leiters, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, said. “The Mission S provides a glimpse of the ideas and design features that will shape Porsche in the coming years.” The focus is on the authentic, consequent, and timeless design of the vehicle and a particularly intense connection between driver and car. “At the same time, the Mission S represents a mid-engined super sports car platform positioned above the 911 – not as a one-off hypercar, but as a permanent and versatile addition to our customer offering,” Leiters added.

The Porsche Mission S celebrates its world premiere today at a location of historical significance to the company: a pier in Queens, New York, with a view of the Manhattan skyline. The first pictures of the mid-engined Porsche 550 Spyder on this very pier made their way around the world in 1953.

As the brand's first super sports car, the 550 Spyder is still regarded today as having defined the company's identity. At the same time, it laid an important foundation for Porsche to become popular and successful in the US. By choosing this location, Porsche is emphasizing the importance of its history for the future of design and brand – a claim that is also reflected in the Mission S.

New York. Authentic, consequent, and timeless: these three terms set the strategic framework for the further development of Porsche's iconic design identity. “The Mission S is the result of a forward-looking, holistic design strategy,” says Tobias Sühlmann, Head of Style Porsche. “This vision model illustrates a fundamental strategic direction that we will soon be translating into our future product portfolio.”

The Mission S combines a powerful mid-engine super sports car platform with a clear design language inspired by historic Porsche icons. Inside, the focus is on purism, driver-oriented ergonomics, and a forward-looking symbiosis of analogue and digital controls. The deliberate reduction of digital surfaces focuses on direct interaction between driver and vehicle.

Exterior design: purist design language with innovative design features
The exterior of the Porsche Mission S translates typical Porsche design features into the future. The characteristic torpedo fenders, the iconic roofline, and the dramatic width-to-height ratio form central elements of the sports car architecture. This results in what are known as “floating volumes:” flowing forms and surfaces that seem to float. The goal is to create a powerful, technical-looking sculptural appearance and effectively showcase the performance character of the car.

Particular attention went to the car’s clean lines. A wraparound main line connects the light signatures at the front and rear, creating an overall appearance that is as striking as it is harmonious. Above this line, the surfaces emphasize muscularity and dynamic capability, while the areas below make technical functions visible and emphasize the lightweight construction philosophy. Historic Porsche icons served as a source of inspiration. The round headlights and the striking fenders – which not only echo the familiar “torpedo” design but also make the side profile more present – are reminiscent of the 911.

The shut lines that merge into the light graphics pay homage to the G model 911 built from the 1974 to 1989 model years. The flat front takes its cue from the 911 GT1, while the dynamic-looking roofline beneath the rear wing is reminiscent of the 959. In the Mission S, it extends distinctively right through to the rear of the car. Another highlight is the car-in-car concept at the rear, derived from the GT1. All elements are interpreted in a contemporary way and combined to form a harmoniousI overall design.

Mid-engine architecture characterizes the proportions of the show car. The engine is positioned centrally in the vehicle, which makes the familiar flyline possible. Technical details, such as the cooling solution reminiscent of the Porsche 917’s radiator fan or the fully integrated active rear wing, combine function and design in typical Porsche fashion. The wheels are also a highlight: based on the iconic dial design of the 928, a new design concept has been created that is systematically geared towards lightweight construction. The wheels of the vision model underline the striking overall impression of the sports car.

Interior: consistent focus on the driver
Inside, the Porsche Mission S represents a deliberate return to the core values of sports car engineering. The interior architecture is based on historic Porsche sports cars such as the 550 Spyder and the 356. Two defining lines run through the dashboard and doors. They convey the characteristic feeling of sitting deep within the car and create a visual link to the exterior design. At the same time, they create a clear, timeless appearance that directs the eye to the essentials. A smooth transition between analogue and digital controls makes the interior feel both familiar and modern. Classic switches and buttons are combined with modern displays, creating an ergonomic layout that combine the familiar with the future. The seats also follow this approach. New technical solutions, such as an integrated seatbelt buckle in the center panel and repositioned electric adjustment controls, combine comfort, functionality and motorsport DNA.

In terms of color, the show car deliberately draws on the tradition of successful Porsche racing cars with white, grey and red tones. The specially developed colors – Firn White Metallic, Light Red Metallic, Black Chrome and Special Black in the interior – reinterpret the classic Porsche Motorsport colors and emphasize the visual link to the brand’s sporting core.

Driver Experience: symbiosis of analogue and digital controls
In addition to the further developed interior architecture, the focus is clearly on the driver experience. The aim is to create an ideal symbiosis of analogue and digital controls. Rather than additional displays and functions, the concept focuses on simplicity, clarity and intuitive operation.

The driver's axis forms the heart of the concept. The systematic alignment of all the controls towards the driver combined with a mix of haptic and digital feedback creates a particularly direct user experience. Highlights include the characteristic five tube instrument cluster design behind the steering wheel. At the center is the tachometer with an analogue needle and a display positioned behind it. Depending on the driving mode, the tachometer moves closer to the driver to further enhance focus. The arrangement of the round instruments also adapts to the selected drive mode, with the tubes positioned either side by side or behind one another to meet the needs of the driver, depending on the mode selected. Other innovations include the holder for the specially designed key, which is positioned to the left of the steering wheel, as is customary at Porsche, and the new control elements in the dashboard with a push-pull function, which allow direct access to various comfort and driving functions. The reimagined Sport Chrono element also combines analogue character with digital precision.

Porsche has deliberately chosen not to include a permanently integrated center display or a fixed passenger display in the dashboard. Instead, a retractable smartphone system compatible with MagSafe® technology has been designed for use as needed. A smartphone can serve as a navigation or information display if desired. A clearly structured and streamlined My Porsche App provides access to all functions and also allows users to select digitally rendered, historically inspired designs for the circular instruments. The result is an interior concept that puts the driving experience first while offering maximum flexibility and convenience.

Future of sports cars: development of a mid-engined super sports car platform
Above the iconic 911 sports car, Porsche is planning, for the first time, a permanently available super sports car offering. The clear objective here is the highest level of engineering excellence and maximum flexibility. This is underpinned by decades of motorsport experience, innovative and brand-defining technology and the forward-looking design unveiled with the Mission S.

Modern retrofit infotainment system for 911, Boxster & Cayman models

Seamless integration of modern infotainment and existing vehicle functions
Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ available wirelessly
Enhanced connectivity, navigation, and over-the-air map updates
Designed for future classics from the 911, Cayman and Boxster model lines (2009-2016)

For years, the Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus (PCCM Plus) has given owners a way to add modern infotainment and navigation technology while retaining a look that feels at home in a classic Porsche interior.

Now, Porsche is expanding the line-up with a new generation of PCCM Plus, bringing enhanced vehicle integration and updated technology to more than 300,000 911, Cayman and Boxster model lines from model years 2009 to 2016. The new systems for the 987.2, 997.2, 981 and 991.1 models are expected to arrive at U.S. Porsche Centers in early 2027.
ATLANTA. The new generation of PCCM Plus is seamlessly integrated into the vehicle architecture. As an alternative to the seven-inch high-resolution touchscreen, the infotainment system can, where fitted as standard, also be operated via the multifunction steering wheel. Personal vehicle settings continue to be supported.

For example, navigation instructions and music tracks can be displayed in the instrument cluster.

The new system also brings many of the digital conveniences found in today’s Porsche sports cars into the models that are quickly becoming modern classics. Wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity are fully integrated using Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi. Depending on local regulations, YouTube viewing is available when the vehicle is parked. Owners can even match the on-screen vehicle display to their car’s exterior for a more personalized experience.

PCCM Plus also adds several useful vehicle-focused features. Speed limits can be displayed using navigation map data, while oil temperature and oil pressure can be monitored through the trip computer screens. In Boxster and Cayman models, the system enhances the existing parking assistance by adding a visual display of nearby obstacles.

Navigation gains satellite imagery and the Scenic Roads feature, which can help drivers find more engaging drives by seeking out winding, scenic roads. Connectivity and entertainment features include HD Radio, FM and AM dual tuners, Bluetooth® audio streaming with song and artist information, compatibility with existing audio systems, and internal and external microphones.

Additional features include a nano SIM card slot with 4G connectivity support for external media devices and over-the-air map updates.

The new PCCM Plus generation will be available in two model-specific versions: one for 2012 to 2016 911, Cayman and Boxster models (991.1- and 981-generation models) another for 2009 to 2013 models (997.2- and 987.2-generation models).

Available features may vary by vehicle model and equipment, and some services require an internet connection. Professional installation at a Porsche Center is recommended. Pricing and additional details for the U.S. market will be announced closer to the expected launch in early 2027.

Some things get older. A Porsche simply becomes more legendary. From the 2013 Porsche to the 2026 Porsche, the journey reflects more than automotive evolution.

It tells a story of innovation without forgetting tradition, proving that while technology changes, true passion never goes out of style.

In 2013, Porsche was already building legendary sports cars that blended performance, precision, and passion. The 911 represented decades of engineering excellence, and enthusiasts admired the unmistakable sound of the flat-six engine and the timeless design.

Today, in 2026, Porsche continues to honor its heritage while embracing the future.
Advanced technology, hybrid performance, and electric innovation have joined the lineup, yet the spirit remains the same—a commitment to driving excellence and the thrill of the open road.

Porsche customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports wins at Laguna Seca

—First IMSA victory for a customer team since the start of the LMDh era in 2023
—Factory driver Laurin Heinrich takes the lead in the championship standings
—Porsche remains at the top of the manufacturers’ standings
—AO Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R on the GTD Pro podium

Customer team JDC-Miller MotorSports won the IMSA race at Laguna Seca. Factory driver Laurin Heinrich from Germany and Tijmen van der Helm from the Netherlands celebrated a surprise victory at the wheel of the No. 5 Porsche 963, which former Porsche Junior Heinrich was able to secure on the final lap of the race. The two Porsche 963 from the Porsche factory team finished in sixth and seventh place.

MONTEREY, Calif. Laurin Heinrich made his mark on the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 24-year-old Porsche works driver took over the JDC-Miller MotorSports 963 from his teammate Tijmen van der Helm in 10th place after about 40 minutes and then thrilled the fans with an impressive comeback. On the last lap of the two-hour, 40-minute race, Heinrich overtook the previously dominant No. 31 Cadillac and secured the first victory for a customer 963 in IMSA.

“A top-notch performance by the entire team and an outstanding driving performance by Laurin Heinrich,” JDC-Miller team principal John Church said. “We didn’t make any mistakes and stuck to our strategy consistently. That’s how we ended up in first place. I’m overwhelmed.”

Thanks to a bold strategy, the two Porsche 963 fielded by the Porsche Penske Motorsport factory team were briefly among the leaders but fell back into the midfield due to a late pit stop. Frenchman Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor from Belgium finished sixth at the wheel of car number 6, while the sister car driven by Felipe Nasr from Brazil and Julien Andlauer from France came in seventh. Both of the factory team’s approximately 707 hp (520 kW) hybrid prototypes were racing in Apple Computer colors to mark “75 Years of Porsche Motorsport” and Apple’s 50th anniversary.

“Congratulations to JDC-Miller MotorSports on their first victory with the Porsche 963,” Urs Kuratle, Head of Works Motorsport LMDh, said. “Laurin Heinrich did a great job; the entire team worked flawlessly and executed a perfect strategy. In the factory team, luck wasn’t on our side. Strategically, we didn’t find the perfect solution.”

Heinrich, who was part of the factory team’s winning crews in the IMSA races at Daytona and Sebring, has taken sole possession of the lead in the drivers’ championship with his victory at Laguna Seca. The factory duos of Nasr/Andlauer and Estre/Vanthoor occupy third and fourth place. Porsche continues to lead the manufacturers’ standings.

Porsche 911 GT3 R customer teams deliver strong results
The AO Racing customer team finished the race in third place in the GTD Pro class. The 911 nicknamed “Sketchy” in a unique livery for the race, driven by works driver Nick Tandy and his British compatriot Harry King, led the class for much of the second half of the race but had to refuel again shortly before the finish. Wright Motorsports suffered the same fate in the GTD class. As a result, the No. 120 car dropped from first to fourth place.

The fifth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will take place on May 30 on the Detroit street circuit and will last 100 minutes.

CSM Scores Pilot Challenge Podium
The No. 2 CSM Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport scored a second-place finish in Saturday’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race. The finish was the first GS-class podium for drivers Morgan Burkhardt and Gordon Scully. Burkhardt and the CSM team had saved fuel for the final stint while others made late splashes for fuel, then passed a slowing car for second place on the final lap.
