Have you noticed there’s a lot of road construction in Mendocino County?
So have we!
Now seems a good time to remind everyone about California’s “move over” law. If traveling on a multi-lane highway, you’re required to move over to the next lane to accommodate emergency and/or construction vehicles on the shoulder.
The law was amended in 2026 as follows: The law now covers all stranded drivers, passengers, and disabled vehicles displaying hazard lights, in addition to law enforcement, fire, ambulance, towing, and Caltrans vehicles.
If moving over is impractical or unsafe due to traffic or weather, drivers must significantly reduce their speed to a "reasonable or prudent" level.
Please be extra vigilant when driving and let’s keep everyone as safe as possible.
