Mecedes E320 2001 Engine running rough!!!!
This may not be an engine performance issue. Collapsed Engine mounts are a common cause, allowing engine vibration to transmit directly to the frame. The days of simple rubber engine mounts are long gone! The modern engine mount has a metal case, this keeps the engine in place in the event of an accident. Unfortunately over time the mount settles, allowing it to make metal to metal contact internally. Compare the collapsed mount on the left, V/S the new mount on the right.

Liqui Moly Engine oil, quality German filters and expert Know-how!!!
That's the secret to keeping your European car running trouble free for years to come.
This 2012 VW had not seen a service shop of any kind for over 20,000 miles. The old oil filter that we removed was brand "X" from a discount parts supplier, and the severe oil sludge build up indicated that the improper viscosity or oil type was being used. We also suspected the filter had been left in for several oil changes. This was this vehicle's first visit to our shop. Since the client had indicated that an oil warning light was on, and had added several quarts of oil. High oil consumption, smoking, poor performance, things we not looking good. We recommended the vehicle be towed.
The results: The illuminated oil light, was actually the low oil pressure light, NOT the oil Level indicator! Short story, the client has been adding several quarts of oil, for the last few months. The issue was not low oil level, but rather low oil pressure due to the restricted poor quality oil filter. In reality the vehicle was over filed by almost 13 liters of engine oil.
Solution to a Happy ending: Change oil and filter with Liqui Moly 5W-40 synthetic, along with a quality O.E.M. oil filter.
