German Scientists Design Salt Air Battery Beyond Lithium Era
Scientists in Germany are exploring a new type of battery technology that could shift the future of global energy storage away from lithium dependence. Early research focuses on salt and air based systems that use abundant materials instead of rare earth metals, aiming to create safer, longer lasting, and more sustainable power solutions.
Unlike traditional lithium ion batteries that rely on intensive mining and complex supply chains, this emerging concept uses chemical reactions between salt derived components and oxygen from the air to store and release energy. Researchers believe this approach could reduce environmental damage linked to mining while also lowering production costs over time.
One of the most promising aspects of this technology is its potential lifespan.
