Green Light Driving School

Wednesday's Words of Wisdom: Not everyone on the road drives civil. Some drive like Munster...er...Monsters...reckless and with abandon. Impatient drivers should be given extra space and plenty of grace. The last thing you want, as a driver, is to be caught up in poor driving habits. So when you encounter a driver like this, don't engage, just move out of their way and go in about your day.

Welcome to autumn! As summer is running out of gas and the words "Pumpkin Spice" seem to be everywhere, Green Light Driving School is open all year long, every season. While we all look forward to dropping temps, dropping leaves, and dropping kids off at school this time of year; one thing drivers can't afford to drop is their attention to the road. Changing temps, falling leaves, and first time drivers going back and forth to school can make this time of year a unique challenge to everyone. So keep your heads up, both hands on the wheel, and be aware of what's coming, because we all know that in Oklahoma, autumn stays around about as long as it takes to drink a pumpkin spice latte and then, winter will be here before you know it with its own unique driving challenges. By, the looks of it, Old Man Winter is already filling his tanks...and probably has Mariah loaded on repeat too!

Traffic lights aren't just for city intersections around the Tulsa metro. Broken Arrow is adding several new traffic lights along its streets for pedestrians and bicyclists now as well. Tulsa has warning lights for crosswalks on streets where there are no intersections. But these are mostly just flashing yellow, meant to alert you if someone is crossing. These function like any traffic light at an intersection. They're new, so be aware. These are things we as drivers need to be on the look out for. Driving in today's world has a different dynamic, the streets don't belong to just the cars and trucks, you must share them with everyone safely. These are the skills Green Light Driving School strives to teach the new drivers of today and tomorrow. We never know what new ideas will come out next, so we have to be ready to prepare our students for them now!

School's almost back from summer, but school zone safety begins Monday. When the lights are flashing in a school zone, please reduce your speed to 25 mph and be aware of children and parents who may be walking in the area. Students return for the start of classes later in the week. Stay safe, Broken Arrow!

So you're ready to get your permit, but you're not sure where to go and what you need to bring with you when do. Well here is a handy chart to help you out.
To break it down, if you're 15 and complete driver's education program here in Oklahoma, like Green Light Driving School's, you can skip the written test and take your information to any Oklahoma Tag Agency and get your permit that way.
If you decide to forgo driver's education, and you just want to get a permit, then you must be 16 and take the written test through Service Oklahoma.
Either way, you'll need the following too: your original birth certificate, your social security number, and proof of residence. Pair those with either your passing written exam or your completed driver's education certificate and you're on your way to getting your permit. Then, after that, you can prepare for getting a full license!
