𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝘂𝗰𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻?
Often it is a thin film of rust on the rotor. Cast iron rusts fast when a car sits wet overnight. The first few stops scrape that film off. You may hear a squeal or feel a light grab. If the pedal is firm and the car tracks straight, that noise usually fades after a short drive.
𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗳:
• The grind keeps going after several miles
• The pedal feels soft or sinks
• The car pulls left or right
• You smell burning, or the brake light is on
• You hear metal on metal
Do not spray anything on the rotor. Lubricant on the braking surface cuts stopping power.
