NO VACANCY — Luke 2:7

Daily Devotional: James Mcclellan

“And she brought forth her firstborn Son… and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

— Book of Luke 2:7

Do I make room for Jesus when life is full?

“There was no room”—not because Jesus wasn’t important, but because the world was busy, crowded, distracted, and unaware.

That phrase still echoes today. People miss Him not out of hatred, but out of preoccupation.

God chose humility on purpose. Jesus—the King of Kings—wasn’t born in a palace or even a guest room. He was laid in a manger, a feeding trough. That wasn’t an accident.

From the start, God showed us this truth: He comes low to reach the low.
The manger points forward to the cross.

From birth to death, Jesus identifies with the poor, the rejected, and the overlooked. He didn’t just pass through humiliation—He stayed. This wasn’t a moment. It was a mission.

God still works in places that don’t look impressive. If Jesus was born there, He’s not afraid to meet us there too.

When It says " low," I’m not talking about social status.
I’m talking about heart posture—humility, surrender, openness.

Make Room Today!

Reflective Question:
Where has my life become too full to make room for Jesus—and what would it look like to clear space today?

Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Forgive me for the times my life is so full that there’s no room for You. Teach me to slow down and recognize You in the ordinary places of obedience. Help me make room—not just in words, but in how I live.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

🥩 **Fake Meat for 200, Alex?
Your Identity… In Jeopardy.**

By James McClellan

Ephesians 4:22–24
“Put off your old self… be renewed… put on the new self.”

🥊

When the real you is hurting, the fake you steps in… and that’s when you become someone you don’t even recognize.

Everywhere you look, something is artificial.

Fake meat.
Fake news.
Fake eyelashes.
Fake identities.
Fake men.
And fake women.

But the fakest thing in the room that night…
was me.

I remember going to the beer tent during the Cherry Festival in Traverse City Mi — alone.

It was the year after my ex-wife left me for another man. I’m not saying that to throw stones — it’s just the truth of where my heart was. I felt discarded, unwanted, and worthless… like someone else’s trash. And drinking fit the profile.

So I walked in pretending to be confident, pretending to be put-together, pretending to be someone worth noticing — while inside I felt like nothing.

I saw a woman and lied about who I was.
I don’t even remember what I said.
But I remember her eyes.

She looked straight through the fake identity I was trying to wear.

She smirked and said:

“You’re kinda cute… too bad you’re a liar.”

And instantly I felt two inches tall.

Why couldn’t I just be myself?
Because the truth was —
I wasn’t myself.

I was the version of me that I built out of shame, insecurity, rejection, and pain.
I projected everything I hated about who I was.
I wore my wounds like a mask and called it confidence.
I carried burdens so heavy I couldn’t even recognize the man underneath them.

That’s what fake identity does —
it convinces you the real you isn’t enough…
while burying the person God actually created.

🔥 QUOTE BOX (for sharing)

“Fake identity doesn’t hide your wounds —
it hides the person God is trying to heal.”

But here’s the good news:

God isn’t calling you to upgrade the fake version of yourself.

He’s calling you to put it off.
To lay it down.
To stop performing and let Him renew you from the inside out.

Because the world says,
“Be whoever you want to be.”
But Jesus says,
“Become who I created you to be.”

There’s a difference.

One is artificial.
The other is Alive and redeemed.

🙏Closing Prayer

Father, Your Word says in Ephesians 4:22–24 to “put off the old self… be renewed… and put on the new self.”
So today, I lay down every false identity I’ve worn, and I ask You to renew my mind by the power of Your Spirit.

Search me, God, and know my heart (Psalm 139:23).
Expose every lie I’ve believed about who I am, and replace it with Your truth —
because Your truth sets me free (John 8:32).

Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10).
Let the old pass away, and let the new come
just as You promised in 2 Corinthians 5:17,
that anyone in Christ is a new creation.

Clothe me in the new self,
created after Your likeness in true righteousness and holiness
(Ephesians 4:24).

And strengthen me, Lord,
to walk in the identity You gave me before the world ever lied to me —
a child of God, redeemed by grace,
known, loved, and made new.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

Now Take a Deep breath and Thank Him!

🚙 “I Didn’t Just Buy a Suburban.”

Devotional by James McClellan

For the last ten years, my wife and I have opened our home to kids who needed safety, love, and a fresh start.
We didn’t always feel prepared.
We didn’t always feel strong.
But we always felt God nudging us to say yes.

Some kids stayed briefly.
Some are still woven into our family.
All of them stretched our hearts further than we imagined —
because that’s what real trauma does.
It breaks kids before they can even speak.
It rewires their little brains in the crib.
It teaches them to fear the very voices that were supposed to protect them.

So foster parents walk into homes carrying kids whose pain is older than their language.
Kids who learned survival before they learned trust.

People don’t see that part —
how foster care grows you, breaks you, rebuilds you,
and forces you to lean on God in ways you never needed to before.

So today, when I pulled into the driveway and looked at this Suburban…
I felt the weight of all those “yeses.”
All the stretching.
All the kids.
All the stories.

And right then it hit me:

“I didn’t just buy a Suburban.”

This wasn’t about needing something bigger.
It wasn’t about transportation or status.

It was God whispering:

“I’m expanding you.
Not for comfort — for calling.
Not for ego — for assignment.
Not for status — but for the kids, the families, and the souls I’m sending your way.”

Every seat represents capacity.
Every mile represents purpose.
Every inch of space is a reminder that God equips the ones who keep saying yes.

And I say this humbly:
I’m not trying to be anything special.
I’m just trying to follow God’s voice in this season of my life.
It’s not easy.
It’s not glamorous.
But it’s holy.

✨ And if God is expanding me… He can expand you too.

Your calling may look different — a ministry, a business, a family, a step of obedience you’ve been scared to take.
But when God enlarges your territory,
He enlarges your heart first.

He gives tools.
He gives grace.
He gives confirmation —
sometimes in the simplest moments,
like standing in snowfall, staring at a vehicle, and realizing:

“God is still making a way for what’s next.”

---

🙏 Prayer for Anyone in a Growing Season

Lord,
For every person reading this who feels stretched or overwhelmed,
remind them that You are the God who equips and enlarges.
Prepare their hearts, provide what they need,
and let them feel Your presence in both the small moments and the big confirmations.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
