Tough bite this am! Only had one client so we got their walleyes they wanted to take home as they catch mostly smallmouth on their lake!! Even had a few decent smallmouth show up this morning. Back at this afternoon!

Beautiful morning out of Muskego Point Resort! Fish were finicky to start the morning but ended with 3 limits of quality eaters!

Picked up right where left off last night! Justin and his dad have been trying to line up dates with me for about a full year before today! Beautiful 23.5” slot released for another angler to enjoy catching one day! Nice limit of eaters to go along with it!

The fishing is very good right now. It’s not easy, but with a little work and patience we are having some really high quality days on the water!

I have openings at the end of June still!

Some pictures from yesterdays trip! Arguably one of the best overall days of fishing I’ve had on Vermilion in while! The quality was top tier and the action was great! Lots of doubles yesterday. Big fish of the day was the heaviest 27” walleye I think I’ve ever seen come out of Vermilion!

Explored new areas and tried new spots and found fish in areas I’ve never thought to check!

Today was one for the books. Too many net jobs to count. New group of clients that are new to Vermilion and repeat clients fishing with me again! Back at it tomorrow! Hopefully post pics from today’s trips tomorrow sometime.

Fishing report!!

Week #3 5/25-6/1

Water temps: 58-65, surface temps as high as 70 in shallow bays

What a crazy week of up and down fishing!! Overnight lows in the low to mid 40s and afternoon highs of 90+ degrees had fish all over at nearly every depth!

To start the week our best bite was on Lindy rigs in 24-35’ of water. Dragging Lindy’s with a minnow from .3-.5 mph produced a lot of fish. Sorting through smalls was the name of the game with these deep water fish but there are plenty of eaters to get a nice meal or two every day!

As the days went on and the water started to warm up, we did see some fish start to push shallow. Not a lot but just a few. The big temperature swings has made these fish super finicky for us. You might get 1-2 fish per pod and then they seem to disappear. Our best spot has produced 6 keeper fish but that was over the course of an hour and fifteen minutes. Anywhere from 6-15’ of water we have seen fish.

To be 100% fair and transparent, it’s been a tough bite this spring and it continues to be that way even with the warm up! The super high air temps are warming the top portion of the water rapidly and it’s making the fish want to move shallow but the bottom portion is still cold and it’s creating a tougher bite than typical. I’m still not seeing much for crayfish up shallow in the areas I’m focusing on which is also part of the reason for lack of fish.

Fish are catchable a variety of ways. Lindy’s, bobbers, casting, you name it and you can catch them right now. It just takes some work and patience. Moving around a lot and hitting a bunch of spots is key. Don’t waste your time in areas you aren’t getting bites. Keep after it and before you know it you’ll have a nice mess of fish.

Repeat guest Mark with one slot and one over on tonight’s trip! I even got to join the fun and caught one of my own!

I think the big fish bite is just getting started for this season. The next 2-3 weeks should be some of the best fishing of the spring!
