LEARN YOUR VEHICLE PARTS 🔧

PART: BRAKE ROTOR

Ever wonder what that big metal disc behind your wheel does?

Your brake rotor works with the brake pads to slow and stop your vehicle. When you press the brake pedal, the pads clamp onto the rotor, creating the friction needed to stop.

A few things to know:

• Rotors wear over time — they don’t last forever.
• Rotors can become thin, warped, cracked, or heavily rusted.
• Pulsation or vibration when braking can be a sign of a rotor problem.
• A grinding noise can mean the brake pads are worn down and the rotor may already be damaged.
• Rotors that are too thin may not be safe to reuse, even if they look okay.
• Brake problems don’t always make noise — regular inspections are important.

Next time you look through your wheel, take a peek. That shiny metal disc is doing some serious work every time you hit the brakes.

🔋 BATTERY MYTHS VS. FACTS

MYTH: If my vehicle starts, my battery is good.
FACT: A battery can still start your vehicle while its reserve capacity and cranking power are declining.

MYTH: Batteries only die because of cold weather.
FACT: Heat is actually tough on batteries and can shorten their overall life. Cold weather just makes a weak battery more noticeable.

MYTH: Driving around will always recharge my battery.
FACT: Lots of short trips may not give the alternator enough time to replace the power used during starting.

MYTH: A little corrosion on the terminals isn’t a big deal.
FACT: Corrosion can create resistance and cause starting and charging problems.

MYTH: If the battery has 12 volts, it’s good.
FACT: Voltage alone doesn’t tell the whole story. A proper battery test checks its ability to actually deliver power.

MYTH: I’ll replace it when it quits.
FACT: That’s a great plan… until it quits in the middle of a grocery store parking lot. 😆

Not sure how your battery is doing? Stop by Orr Alignment & L**e and have it tested before it leaves you stranded.

🚗 LEARN YOUR VEHICLE PARTS: WHEEL HUB

Your vehicle’s wheel hub is an important part of the wheel assembly. It connects the wheel to the vehicle and allows the wheel to rotate smoothly.

WHAT DOES A WHEEL HUB DO?

A wheel hub supports the wheel and tire while allowing them to spin properly. On many vehicles, the hub assembly also includes the wheel bearing and may house the wheel speed sensor used by the anti-lock braking system.

SIGNS OF A WORN WHEEL HUB:

• Humming, growling, or grinding noises that increase with speed
• Vibration or looseness in the wheel
• Uneven tire wear
• Steering that feels loose or unstable
• An ABS or traction control warning light
• A clicking or clunking sound while turning

WHY IT MATTERS:

A worn wheel hub can affect handling, braking, tire wear, and the operation of safety systems like ABS. Ignoring the warning signs may lead to more expensive repairs or unsafe driving conditions.

Not sure if your wheel hub is wearing out? Stop by Orr Alignment & L**e and let our team inspect it before a small problem becomes a major repair.

❄️🛞 DON’T WAIT UNTIL IT’S NEGATIVE OUTSIDE TO REPLACE YOUR TIRES!

Nobody wants to be standing in a tire shop parking lot when it’s below zero, looking at a tire that’s completely worn out—or worse, sitting on the side of the road with a flat. 🥶

If your tires are getting low on tread, showing cracks, wearing unevenly, or you’re already noticing poor traction, now is the time to replace them.

When temperatures drop, tire pressure drops too, and cold weather can make an already-worn tire even more of a safety concern.

🚨 Don’t wait for:
• The first big snowstorm
• A tire going flat
• Bare tread
• An icy morning commute
• Negative temperatures

Get ahead of winter and replace those tires before you need them most.

Your tires are the only thing connecting your vehicle to the road. Make sure they’re ready for whatever Wyoming winter throws at you! ❄️

🔧 DID YOU KNOW? — WHAT DOES “PACKING A BEARING” MEAN? 🛞

Ever heard your mechanic say, “That bearing needs to be packed”? Here’s what that actually means!

Wheel bearings need grease to keep everything moving smoothly and prevent excessive heat and wear. Packing a bearing means working fresh grease completely through the bearing so it reaches the rollers and internal surfaces that need lubrication.

When we service a bearing, we also inspect it for:
✅ Pitting or damage
✅ Excessive wear
✅ Overheating or discoloration
✅ Proper lubrication
✅ Damage to the bearing race or seal

A properly serviced bearing can help prevent bigger—and much more expensive—problems down the road.

🚗 That humming, grinding, or growling noise you’ve been ignoring? It could be a wheel bearing!

Bring it in and let us check it out before a small repair becomes a big one.
