Nov. 1, 1941, President Roosevelt’s Executive Order 8929 directed the entire U.S. Coast Guard to operate as a part of the department of the U.S. Navy. This remained until Jan. 1, 1946, when we returned to the U.S. Department of the Treasury pursuant to Executive Order 9666. While boating season may be coming to a close in many parts of the country, it's never a bad time to think about boating safety. Today, one of our Facebook supporters asked for more information about Type I lifejackets. Type I lifejackets are considered commercial/offshore lifejackets best for all waters, open ocean, rough seas, or remote water, where rescue may be slow coming. No matter what kind of boating you're doing, there's a life jacket for you so please remember to wear it: http://goo.gl/Hg7HcF
