Your Norfolk Auto Inc Junior Honda Points Series is only 1 race away from finishing! It is TOO CLOSE TO CALL! Let's take a deep dive!!!
1 more race left to determine your champion, and the ever exciting points drop to take place (every driver drops their lowest race finish throwing another wild card into the numbers!). Heres where we stand.
Your current points leader... Jack Gniadek. An amazing showing this season here at Little T. Securing multiple race wins this season, and a load of podiums, he has kept this lead going for a long time.
Closing the points gap yet again, is Cara Madison Racing in second place. With just an 18 point gap to Jack. She made a triumphant return to the Honda podium this weekend after 4 race drought. Can she secure enough points to win it all? Will she prevail as champion in her last year of Junior Honda?
Third place belongs to Axel Rivera! He has been on a hot streak since he joined the race season (one race late in the year). Over the past 6 races, 3 have been in first place, and 5 of those 6 were podiums. He has climbed up the standings but faces a 63 point gap to overcome to get 2nd. Which with only one race left, will prevent him from moving up.... With his last points race in the Junior Classes coming up, will he nail the finish?
But nothing says a driver can't go backwards at this point. With MJ lauf securing his 2nd race win in a row in this class. His driving has developed and grown all season long and the results are showing! Just 1 point back from Axel, he has a great chance at getting himself up to 3rd place if he puts the pieces together for one last race!
Sliding back from 3rd to 5th, is Garrett. A strong and consistent season from Garrett has given him great strength in staying high in the points standings. But with Axel and MJ locking in for the final races of the season, it will be hard to break back into the top 3 with a 14 point gap to make up.
In 6th is Niko. Niko has had an incredible run this year, but an handler error caused a tech DQ (unfortunately a miscommunication had the car not make it to tech resulting in an undroppable 0 on the board.) Only 3 points behind Garrett and 16 to MJ, this last points race is going to shape everything for Niko!
7th place belongs to Chase Benson. A year of ups and downs for Chase have shown glimmers of hope but fate has a way of dashing those glimmers away this season. With a DNF for points Race 9 as the car would not maintain speed due to a fuel delivery issue. With 19 points to advance in the standings, he doesn't have much to move forward, but theres definitely room to go backwards.
8th place belongs Hayden Roche! Sitting just 19 points back from Chase, Hayden is ready to pounce and gain some positions! Hayden has been very consistent all year long. With Haydens last points race of the Junior classes coming up, will he lock in a podium finish to close it all out? That consistency is going to pay big dividends in the Senior classes!
In 9th place is Koda Michaels. A stellar year for Koda with some amazing finishes. 16 points separate him and Hayden, and with the drop at the end of the season, this definitely doesnt feel like the final spot for Koda this year.
In 10th place, Logan Onate! We have to mention his first competitive series win in the Junior 160 (since we dont have a scoreboard on social media for that one!) this past weekend! Logan shows so much speed, and hes about to break through when all the pieces fall together! 6 points is all he needs to move up to 9th, and the way hes driving lately, don't expect him to settle for 10th!
Rounding out our Junior Honda class is Dakota Mercier! Sitting with 306 points, just 13 points back from 10th, hes looking to make some changes. An awesome 6th place run this past weekend has him eyeing the podium before year end! To his benefit, his drop comes from a race where his car was damaged and did not attempt to race... that means if his point race 10 goes well, his drop will be 0 points helping boost him up in the standings!
One year, and it all comes down to this. Every driver fighting for every spot all year long. We are less than a month away from points race 10 and crowning our champion. Where will all the drivers fall when the points races end and the drops come into play? Well thats for all of us to find out at the track on September 27th!
