Replacing an AC Condenser on a 17 Ford Explorer today.
Some people wonder why cars are so expensive to repair. Well here you go…
The whole front end has to come off so the part can be removed, which is attached to a whole assembly that consists of the radiator, turbo intercooler and then AC condenser which has the transmission cooler built into it🤦‍♂️.

Toyota 2.4L engine rebuild at the shop this week…this customer was adding a quart of oil roughly every 500 miles. Oil control rings get plugged up with gunk and no longer work as designed. Toyota had a service campaign years ago to fix this issue with redesigned pistons and rings.

Did more of these engine rebuilds than I could count during my career at the dealership. Glad to have another one in the shop as I really enjoyed fixing this engine.

New redesigned pistons and rings, valve seals, bearings and timing components for this one and this engine will run good as new.

Just a little update on the sequoia...JK…it was a big update on the ol girl.

Customer brought it in for a complete suspension overhaul after 870k miles. It was quite the undertaking as most of the suspension parts were probably original as the customer doesn’t recall ever replacing any of the parts in a very, very long time if ever. Almost every part was seized due to age/rust and needed to be cut out to remove.

Heres the list of parts it got…

-1” front and rear lift kit(springs and shocks)
-Upgraded front sway bar and extended sway bar links as well as extended rear sway bar links.
-New front upper and lower control arms
-New front upper and lower ball joints
-New wheels and tires(17” from 16”)
-Front and rear brake pads and rotors
-Front diff drop kit
-Left rear wheel bearing and axle seal
-Power steering rack polyurethane bushings

2011 Chevy Malibu w/ 2.4L and 107K miles…customer stated there was some engine noise at times as well as lack of power and hesistation when cold. Noises and performances got slightly better after it warmed up.

Heres what I found….

Broken/shattered timing chain guide…the chain was riding on the guide bolts🫣. This chain had so much slack in it, I couldnt believe it was still running. This customer got super lucky the chain did not jump timing and damage the engine.
I replaced both balance shaft and timing chains as well as all chain guides, tensioners, VVT actuators and VVT solenoids. Also removed the oil pan to remove all the plastic debris from the broken guides.

Vehicle also had a cracked exhaust manifold causing the vehicle to run rich. Long term fuel trim was at +15%.

Starting to understand why most shops and Chevy dealers recommend these timing chains at 100k.

Not gonna lie, this 14 Ford Fusion threw me for a little bit of a loop.
Car came in with an extremely loud knocking noise that to me sounded like a connecting rod knock. It resonated throughout the whole engine and was hard to pinpoint the source. After spending some time trying too locate the source, I decided to remove the starter and check for a broken flexplate. And viola…we had a winner!!!

I’m glad I took the extra 30 minutes to remove the starter and check the flexplate because I was really close to telling this customer they needed an engine replacement.

2010 Audi Q5 in today for a coolant leak repair. The PCV breather assembly was diagnosed to be leaking.
Plastic components get weak and brittle over time from heat cycling and unfortunately most manufacturers these days use plastic components, so these kind of repairs will be inevitable.
We’ll get it fixed up with some new parts and a fresh oil change and it will be back on the road.
