We often find our shop in the mix of conversations on various social media platforms when people ask:
"What shop do you recommend in Terre Haute for quality, timely work, and most reasonable pricing?"
Let us be clear - Vigo County is full of high-quality auto shops. You will never catch our shop degrading another local shop or business, period. Price points and scheduling are vastly different across the Wabash Valley because while were all in the same service industry, we all have our own individual ways of doing business.
Local competition is good in our business. It stabilizes the market, provides good and fair wages to our employees and allows us to invest in our local sports teams, local projects and many local events. Heck, many local shops call each other just to simply have a conversation around business, or maybe even ask for advice when it comes to a pesky issue, we seemingly can't resolve.
We want to be transparent around pricing. I would surmise to say over 90% of our business comes from our great customers and their voice, or a social media recommendation. We don't spend money on the radio, TV or billboards. We do our best to provide high quality automotive repair that is reasonable for the customer but also allows us to pay our bills, insurance, and most importantly our great employees.
We don't diagnose vehicles for free. We have to commit an employee to your vehicle with specialized tools and equipment. Diagnosing issues in 2025 is much different than it was in 2000. That specialized equipment in some cases, costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Also, our mechanic with the skills and knowledge, and who has been trained to operate the equipment - has to get paid for his time and effort.
It's simply not fair to any local shop to diagnose anything for free. In those scenarios, the customer uses the shop to then call around looking for (in most cases) the cheapest place to have their vehicle repaired. Good shops will do their own independent investigation anyway. We always make sure the diagnosis is correct (even your own recommendation) before wasting time changing parts to only find out it was something else. Nearly all shops drop the diagnostic charge upon approval of repair and only charge the necessary time to make the repair.
