Fultz Finishes First, Three In A Row For Collins; Overholt, Merritt and Chambers Grab Wins at Tazewell Speedway

Scoring the trifecta on Saturday night, Harrogate’s Travis Fultz was quickest in qualifying, won his heat race and led every lap of the thirty lap feature for his third win of the season. Fultz would bring the field to the green flag with Clyde Overholt sharing the front row. On lap five Odie Overholt would slide his way past his older brother for second. Two laps later Clyde would make contact with a lap car, causing enough damage to end his night. Meanwhile, Jody Horton began hassling Odie Overholt for the second spot.
Midway through the feature Odie and Jody began reeling in Fultz. With the laps winding down Odie stayed right with the leader, hoping for a bobble or mistake. Fultz was flawless from flag to flag capturing his third win of the season in the Quality Masonry, Phillips Excavating, Porta-Clean Inc. sponsored CVR Race Car with power from a DJ’s Performance Race Engine.

Josh Collins of Powell muscled his way past pole-sitter Logan Seal on the opening lap of the Sportsman feature to log his third win in a row behind the wheel of the Brucebilt Performance, Shorty’s Shock Service, Thomas Electric, American Racer Tire, Ez Racing, Patriot Bail Bonds, FK Rod Ends, Rhonda’s flowers and Gifts, Harbins Handyman, Skin by Hannah, Simpson Excavating, A Church Called Love, K-Town Poker League, Hilltop Recycling, Stealth Carbs, Team PPM, Wallace Auto Sales sponsored Rocket Chassis.

In Street Stock action, heat race winners Zach Campbell and John Stevens would pace the field for the twenty lap feature. On the opening lap the pair would make contact, ending Stevens’ night and causing slight damage to the truck of Campbell. Clyde Overholt would take over the lead from Campbell in the opening laps and lead the rest of the way for his fourth win of the season driving the Hunter Fletcher Racing, Tim Fletcher Heating & Cooling, Clyde Overholt Racing, RCR Racing Parts, Petty’s Wrecker Service sponsored Monte Carlo.

Teammates Lee Merritt and Will Carey shared the front row of the Classic Car feature after winning their respective heat races. Carey would lead the first lap as Merritt, Cooper Ward and Josh Chesney gave chase. Ward would spin on lap four yet rally back to finish fourth. Up front Carey and Merritt battled door to door for the lead. On lap seven Shaun Sise would take third away from Chesney. On the next lap Carey’s car would smack the wall on the back stretch after breaking a lower ball joint. Lee Merritt would take over the lead and to collect the win in the Atkins Auto Repair, Holladay’s Towing, Loyston Mafia, Wilson’s Auto Sales sponsored coupe.
