Q: I currently have a 3.9 Rover V8. Can I fit a 4.6 or 4.8 into my vehicle?
A: Yes! All Rover V8's are dimensionally the same, with only bore and stroke changing to create different displacements. This means you can take your existing external components (intake, timing cover, etc) and swap them over to the 4.6 or 4.8. If you are running EFI, a new chip and MAF are often required.

TWS can assist with larger displacement engines, chips, and MAF upgrades.

Q: What temps should I see my Discovery 2 run? Where should I be concerned?
A: We like to see temps under 205 during full operation. Anything over 215 likely indicates a problem. In warmer climates, we expect cars to run warmer, and consistent cycling is what is most important.

Q: What are top hat liners and how do they help? Do you install them on every motor?
A: A major fault of the Rover V8 is liners slipping and causing coolant consumption, overheating, and/or knocking. Since the stock liners have nothing stopping them from moving down, and the thermal expansion differences between aluminum (the block) and cast iron (the sleeve), it is almost inevitable. We top hat all of our motors, except the 3.5 as we do not see this issue due to the small overall bore size,, resulting in a thicker liner.

We get a lot of tech questions here at TWS, to the tune of 300-400 emails and calls each week. So... we thought it might be nice to do a TWS Tech Series for everyone to benefit! This is post 1 of 5 across the next 5 weeks.

Q: What is the recommended break-in procedure for your camshafts?
A: Use Driven or Joe Gibs 10-30w break in oil. Upon startup, run the engine up immediately to 2,000 RPMS for 20 minutes, limiting idle time, while monitoring temps. Change oil to detergent 20-50w conventional oil with high zinc. Full details in the link here https://bit.ly/cambreakin
