Ever fill up your gas tank… and suddenly your SUV starts stalling? 😳

That’s exactly what happened with this 2012 Kia Sorento. By the time it arrived at Bay Brothers Automotive, it was driving normally again — and there wasn’t even a trouble code stored.

So what was causing it?

The clue was *when* the problem happened: right after refueling. Our diagnostic process led us to an EVAP purge valve that appeared to be working during testing, but could intermittently stick and create the stalling issue.✅

👉 Read the full repair story and see why “no codes found” doesn’t always mean “nothing’s wrong.”

The engine cooling system does more than keep the temperature gauge under control. It also supplies heat to the vehicle’s cabin. When coolant becomes low or circulation is interrupted, the heater may behave inconsistently while engine temperature begins to rise.

In this case, the combination of an over-temperature warning and changing vent temperature suggested coolant loss or poor circulation. Continuing to drive under those conditions could have increased the risk of severe overheating and engine damage.

An overheating warning can appear suddenly, but the problem behind it may have been developing for some time. An overheating warning can appear suddenly, but the problem behind it may have been developing for some time. A 2016 Ford Edge Titanium recently arrived at Bay Brothers Automotive after displaying a coolant over-temperature warning. The driver also noticed that the air coming through the vents changed temperature for several minutes. Those two symptoms pointed toward a possible cooling-system problem, so our Tampa auto repair team began with a detailed inspection and advanced diagnosis rather than guessing at the cause.
