My parents put me in a sailing school when I was a child. I was a natural born sailor. I picked it up effortlessly. I moved to Florida in fall of 1977 and learned to windsurf. I got a job renting out windsurfers and Hobie 16 beach catamarans at the Thunderbird hotel on Sunny Isles Beach (North end of Miami Beach). Then I got a job teaching sailing on larger sailboats at the Jack Leverenz Sailing S
chool in Punta Gorda, FL in the winter and Lake St. Clair (near Detroit, Michigan) in the summer. Then I went to Pharmacy School and graduated in 1993. I worked as a pharmacist until 2021. I always wanted to get back into marine industry. I owned Palm Beach Compounding Pharmacy in Jupiter, Florida for 12 years, when I sold it in December 2021. South Florida was getting too congested so my wife and I moved to Tallahassee in June 2022. My first plan was to buy a Marina, but I decided to start my own business from scratch, Rick's Small Sailboats LLC. I want to remove barriers to entering the sport of sailing. People think sailing is expensive and complicated to learn. Large sail boats are expensive and complicated. Small trailerable sailboats are affordable and a 8 hour sailing lesson is included in the purchase price of any boat we sell. The lesson covers all the basic information you need. After the 8 hour lesson you have a solid knowledge base to build on. Everything not covered in the 8 hour lesson can easily be learned for U-Tube videos and reading books on sailing. Operating a sailboat provides you with a sense of accomplishment that you don't get from operating a power boat. Operating a power boat is like driving a car on the water. Learning to use only the wind to get from one place to another requires much more skill than power boating but is not difficult to learn. Call Rick 954-579-1289 and he will get you out on the water learning the exciting sport of sailing.
