Hello all you fabulous Tahoe Sailors! Monday Night Laser Racing is happening out of the Lake Forest Boat Ramp Sailing Center in Tahoe City. New for this year, we are adding a fleet we call "Open Dinghy" to encourage people to try racing. We have 8 double handed boats for people to use for FREE including RS Zests for kids, 420s with trapezes, Club FJs and even a Tasar! All these boats will be racing together at the same start. This is appropriate for sailors who have basic sailing knowledge and know how to self rescue after a capsize.

And guess what, registration is also FREE courtesy of the Tahoe Yacht Club. Visit https://tahoeyc.com/regatta/LgFlupKp5N to register for "Open Dinghy" First gun is at 6 PM. Try to be at the Lake Forest Boat Ramp by 4 PM on Monday to get a boat and we'll show you how to rig it. There will be safety coach boats on the water to provide safety and free coaching. A huge thanks to the Tahoe Yacht Club who puts on the race and the Tahoe Community Sailing Foundation for supplying the dinghies. Also, if you want to get better at this kind of sailing, BOOK A CLASS with us at www.LakeTahoeSail.com

Finally, if you believe in sailing and want to see this sport flourish here in Tahoe, consider making a tax deductible donation to the Tahoe Community Sailing Foundation at https://www.tahoe-sailing.com/ Share this post you salty scallywags! - Nick Pullen

Just got back from one of our best regattas ever sailing Elite Keel with Tahoe Yacht Club Members Martin Gibson and Rick Raduziner. Sailing with these guys was amazing on the Melges 24. High intensity level and focus. We surprised ourselves and finished second in a fleet of 8! If you want to try Melges 24 sailing sign up for our family weeks or adult evening weeks at Lake Tahoe. Here’s me Nick Pullen with two of our rockstar kids from the Tahoe Yacht Club Junior Race Team at Santa Cruz. Oliver Hoffman and Ethan Mooieveer. We raced Lasers in big conditions on Sunday. It was their first real sailing regatta. As the coach for the team my job is to provide support but it’s also to push them to get better in every way. Sailing develops executive functioning skills and it will teach some hard lessons if you are not prepared or neglect the details.

These guys are getting pretty good! If you have a teen that loves sailing we’d love to have them join the team. We have great boats with 3 different sail sizes to accommodate youth from 100 to 200 pounds. Coaching is free at regattas. Racing local Monday nights is free as well. Boat transport to Regattas is free. The cost to use the boats is also FREE. This has to be the best deal in sports.

Athletes are expected to have their own sailing gear including hiking pants, sailing boots, lifejacket and spray top. Athletes are required to do four weeks of training in the summer.

If you have a teen that loves sailing please get in touch with me. Call or text 530-412-1101. Let’s make some Sailors!! -Nick
