THIS DAY IN AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY: On August 28, 1951 Porsche celebrated the completion of its 1,000th Stuttgart-built car. Contemporary photographs show Ferry Porsche at the ceremony.

At that time the Stuttgart plant was primarily producing the 356, and reaching a thousand cars was a tangible sign that Porsche’s small, specialized operation had moved beyond boutique workshops into a recognized, ongoing manufacturing effort. The milestone underscored the brand’s shift from prototype builder to established sports-car maker.
