It’s going to be a hot week ya’ll! And extreme heat and rapid temperature changes will quickly cause pre-existing chips on your windshield to expand into long, dangerous cracks.

Let’s get those chip repaired! Minor chips (smaller than a quarter) can be repaired, but extreme heat WILL cause them to spread past the point of repair, forcing you to pay for a full windshield replacement.

🚨How to Prevent and Manage Cracks🚨

To protect your windshield and prevent small chips from spreading in the summer heat:
* Park in the shade: Protecting your car from direct sunlight helps maintain a more stable temperature.
* Use a sunshade: A reflective windshield sunshade helps shield the glass and keeps the interior cooler.
* Cool your car down slowly: If your car has been baking in the sun, avoid blasting the A/C directly onto the windshield! Turn the air down to low and point the vents toward the floor initially.

One of the leading causes of windshield cracks leading to bigger problems – and effectively requiring windshield replacement instead of windshield repair – is snow. ❄️

Helpful tip: Cleaning Snow From Windshield Properly:
NEVER scrape your windshield with all your might. If you must do it , do it as gently as possible. NEVER pour boiling water on top of the snow, it can lead to shattering your glass & exacerbating cracks.

Before you start cleaning, it is important you figure out whether there’s ice or snow on top of your car. If it’s snow, use a snow brush. If it’s ice, use the ridged side of your ice scrapper GENTLY to slash the ice *vertically* and then break the ice into chunks. Let gravity to the rest.

Avoiding Snow on Windshield:
This method is a bit unconventional but one that definitely works. If you know a storm is coming, take a blanket, and wrap your windshield with it. Make sure it’s tight by slipping the ends in the car’s door.
If possible, put a piece of expanded polystyrene (EPS) on both ends of the windshield to make sure the blanket is slightly lifted. When you are ready for a drive, you may find that the blanket is frozen, but the windshield will be clear, except some slight condensation that you can easily clean up.
