RACE REPORT FROM HSD SPONSORED RACER Tom Bach

"Going into my first-ever race, I was nervous and anxious to say the least. I registered for the 1000 NA and Vet 40+ Stock class to compete at the 2023 inaugural CORR series race in Blythe, CA.

For the 1000 NA class race, I got a good start and was in position to keep my line into the first turn. While making the sweeping right turn, a driver got tapped and spun in front of me. Braking and turned to the left to avoid hitting them, I was able to jump back on the throttle quickly and still maintain good track position. Throughout the race, I tried to maintain a good pace and not push myself too hard trying to keep up with my highly skilled and powered competition. Several times I pulled to the side and waved some racers by as to not slow them down. Some turns I missed my line, some turns I went into hot, and some not hot enough. My pumper hose came off my helmet at one point, so I had to slow down a little to resolve that issue. I ended up securing an 8th place finish and was so stoked. An hour after my first race, I started the Vet 40+ Stock class race. I was able to get good track position again. Keeping my pace and continuously learning at each corner and jump, I maintained my position and was slowly gaining on the drivers ahead. As the race progressed, I would lose focus as I started to get tired, my spotter was always there to bring me back in and settle me down. Again some turns I missed my line, some turns I went into hot, and some not hot enough. Being exhausted but full of adrenaline, I crossed the finish line in 2nd place. Fist pumping and shouting as loud as I could (I’m sure only I could hear in my helmet 😁). My Polaris RZR XP 1000 held together fantastically, and I finish my first-ever race weekend with so many memories, experiences, and knowledge. I’m eagerly awaiting the next race, gaining experience, and continuing to grow.

I can’t thank enough my spotter Steve Hoffman, his outstanding communication and guidance throughout my two races was such an instrumental piece to my success.
