Hello Friends! I don't do product reviews but I made a big purchase for my RV that a lot of people have a lot of opinions on and wanted to share my experience. That purchase is the Splendide VENTLESS washer/dryer combo. I made the purchase Sunday, installed Monday, and have done about 7 or 8 loads so far. Many of the complaints are that the loads are so small it takes a long time to clean everything , they don't dry clothes well, and that the cycle takes too long. Here's my experience so far!
Load size - the drum is small. If you want it to both wash and dry, you can only have it half full. So far that's what we've done and that seems to be a day's worth of clothes for a family of 4. If you are not going to use the dry feature, you can fill the entire drum up. So yes, the load size is small, but for us (once we get caught up with all the laundry) we should be able to do 1 or 2 loads a day and never have laundry stacked and backed up.
Do the clothes dry well? We've used the dryer cycle for all but one load and, so far, I had one sock that felt slightly damped. Otherwise, everything we've pulled out of the dryer has been fully dried. We do follow the instructions that the load should be half full when using the dryer. If you want to have a mix of clothes that can be hung and dried, you can run a full load on wash, pull out what can be hung, and then run a dryer cycle. We have not done this yet, but will in the future.
How long does it take? 2 hours and 5 minutes for a wash/dry combo. When I used the laundromat it was 30 min for a wash, 40 min for a dry plus the time to switch machines. Yes, it does take longer, but I don't think it's outrageous. With only being a half load full, it's probably 1/3 of what I could get done with one machine at the laundromat. But I can do a load or two every day instead of once or twice a week and I don't have to go anywhere.
Other comments - while it doesn't create moisture in the air, it does produce a lot of heat. It's already a challenge to keep the RV cooled during the intense Missouri heat so to have something that produces a significant amount of heat is very counterproductive. We are keeping the closet doors closed to help with this and I might add a fan in the closet at some point.
The unit was about $1600. To me, that's a lot of money but I know people that have spent more than that for each of their washer and dryer in their home. The price is high compared to taking to the laundromat but the convenience will pay for itself very quickly.
Let me know if you have any questions or other concerns you've heard and I'll try to answer them for you.
