90% of all of the driveshafts that I touch are not with the vehicle. I primarily get the information from the owner or shop over the phone or in person. While this isn't an issue, there are several key pieces of information that I need to correctly and effectively get your driveshaft built. Material, tubing size, center-to-center length, and u joint series are the primary things I need to know. I get several folks that call and say "It's going on a '84 C10". While that helps some, It doesn't tell me what I need to know. In 1984, a C10 could have came with 1310, 1350, or 3R series u joints (that is if everything is still like it was from the factory). Others may say "Its got a 10 bolt or a Ford 9 inch". Again, depending on how the vehicle was optioned, that could be one of 5 or 6 different u joints. If you bring an open ended shaft to me and ask for u joints, and do not specifically know if anything has been changed, I will select and install the u joint series specific to that shaft. If it has a combo joint on front or rear (or both), there's no way for me to know that unless you tell me, you leave the complete old joints in, or you bring me the slip yoke and the rear pinion/rear fl**ge yoke. I have a video on YouTube about how to measure your u joints to determine their size. I can only operate effectively based upon the information that I am given and the information that is in front of me. When a vital piece of that gets left out, I cant accurately do my job which puts me and the customer at a disadvantage.
