I have to say Dr. Jens at Racine Veterinary Hospital has worked his magic again. Starting last week Monday Ruby wasn't eating much and getting lethargic, by Friday she stopped eating but she was still drinking. She would still go outside and p*e but no #2. Thinking she was backed up again, or her a**l glands were bothering her again, I made an appointment with Racine veterinary Hospital for Tuesday. That was the soonest day they could see her.
During the weekend she got even worse so I found a local vet that could see her Monday. After a bunch of tests and blood work I was told it was either something she ate, kidney disease, or Addison's disease. That vet made it seem to me there wasn't much hope for her. She didn't explain very much to me, all she said we can keep her overnight and run more tests to find out what is going on but there is no cure for either disease. At that point I figured what's the difference if she is going to die why spend the money. They gave her some fluids and sent me home with anti nausea pills to give her. With no real path to getting her better.
No sooner I left that vet I called to see if Dr. Jens would look over the test results for a 2nd opinion. Boy am I glad I did. He explained in great detail his findings with her blood work. He was more then confident this was a case of Addison and not Kidney disease or something she ate. He asked me how soon I could bring her in and I was there in 10 minutes. He explained once again what all the blood work showed and how this has all the signs of Addison's disease. He also said Addison is very treatable and she can live a normal life. He gave me some hope.
I left her in his care for a few hours yesterday so he can start treating her and doing a true test for Addison's. When I picked her up she had a wagging tail and excited to see Michael and I. She came home slept the night got up this morning and wanted to eat then go to the shop like normal. She was back to herself.
I got a call early afternoon confirming she has Addison's disease. She will be on a shot every 4 weeks and a daily prednisone pill for the rest of her life, but that's a small price to pay to have her around for Michael and I.
So once again thank you Dr. Jens for everything you have done for all my dogs throughout the years. I highly recommend Racine Veterinary Hospital for all your pets needs.
