On many vehicles newer than 2010, it is very common for the transmission to no longer have a traditional dipstick. On some vehicles, the fluid level and condition can only be checked from underneath the vehicle using specific procedures and equipment.

This can make it nearly impossible for the average vehicle owner to properly check the fluid level or determine the condition of the fluid without the proper shop equipment and capabilities.
