Daniel had the opportunity to go to the Red Angus bull sale of Alejandro Aznar in Argentina this week. If you are curious to how one looks, even better, how it sounds be sure to turn your volume up. Sorry you can’t smell the asado!
The event takes place at a “Rural Society.” Think of it as a fair grounds but with a sole focus of the livestock industry. Nearly every town has one (the largest being “Palermo” in Buenos Aires). Bulls are usually sold with a “pre offer” done ahead of time online. Buyers are incentivized to bid early with a rebate that comes if the pre offer bid is the winner. Bulls are usually sold in lots with the bidders choice to take 1, 2, or all at the winning price. Trucks are lined up and deliveries happen immediately after the auction ends. Maybe the biggest difference is the crowd size. Sales are still very much a social event, several hundred people were in attendance. A Dorado son named Newton was a top seller to Select Debernardi.
