Happy Birthday to bottled Coca-Cola! πŸŽ‰

On this day in 1894, Coca-Cola was bottled for the first time in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the Biedenharn Candy Company. The original glass bottles were Hutchinson bottles, very different from the now-familiar hobble-skirt design introduced in 1915.

Previously only available at soda fountains, this led the way to Coca-Cola becoming a household name.

What's your favorite way to enjoy a bottle of this classic beverage?

Can you Hula Hoop? 🀩

On this day in 1963, the Hula Hoop was patented by Wham-O's co-founder, Arthur β€œSpud” Melin. Inspired to develop the Hula Hoop by a wooden hoop that Australian children twirled around their waists during gym class, Wham-O began producing a plastic version of the hoop, dubbed β€œHula” after the hip-gyrating Hawaiian dance of the same name.

Hula Hoop mania took off, and an estimated 25 million Hula Hoops were sold in its first four months of production alone.

Following the Hula Hoop, Wham-O continued to produce a steady stream of wacky and beloved novelty items, including the Superball, Water Wiggle, Silly String, Slip β€˜n’ Slide, and the Hacky Sack.

What's your favorite classic Wham-O toy?

On this day in 1931, the U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution making "The Star-Spangled Banner" the official national anthem of the United States, which President Herbert Hoover then signed into law.

Written by Francis Scott Key on September 14, 1814, the song describes the American flag surviving a 25-hour British bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812, which Key had witnessed.
