Here's a Halloween horror story that starts at the gas pump. With fuel prices as high as they are, it's tempting to save a few dollars by filling up with 89 instead of the premium your car calls for. But if your vehicle requires premium, that shortcut could come back to haunt you.
Engines that require premium fuel are designed that way for a reason. Higher-octane gas helps those engines run the way they were engineered to, especially high-performance or high-compression engines. Certain Yukon Denali engines, for example, say "premium only" right in the owner's manual. Over the years, we've seen vehicles that never got the fuel they needed develop internal engine problems, with parts wearing out faster and repairs piling up. Before you switch, check your owner's manual. If it says premium is required, not just recommended, that's what your engine needs.
We know fuel is expensive, but putting the right gas in your tank now is far cheaper than spending thousands on engine repairs later. If you have questions about what your vehicle needs, our ASE-certified technicians are always happy to help.
