Towers get screwed daily allowing third party aggregators to assess damage claims. While this practice, in most cases, keeps the claim off the Tower’s Insurance Loss Runs they are placed in the position to go along with what the aggregator determines. This move is by no means designed to protect the Tower, it’s purely an effort to protect their own relationship and reputation with their OEM or Insurance clients. Towers should always demand a second look from their own party in the matter. Damages assessments are customarily repaid through a payment plan deducted from future earnings. A cheap $55 tow that ends up costing them thousands in very questionable damages.

This is another one those damage claims that will creep up on when you least expect it.

Improperly jump starting Toyota and Lexus Hybrids can result in up to $4000 in nuked electronics under the hood. There is only one OEM endorsed jumpstart procedure, pay close attention to this one.

Words of caution, video document your handling of these vehicles as it’s very common that Towers get stuck with repair bills to repair damages they’ve not actually imposed following failed attempts by vehicle owners or good samaritans.

Have you handled one of these vehicles?

What do Food Service Apps and Towing have in common? Algorithmic analysis and implementation to drive down pay.

For you folks relying heavily on “the apps” as “lead sources” you need to pay attention to how similar technologies are currently leveraged.

You’re already using these platforms, but have no idea how the same technologies are used in the same manner to devalue your work as Towers.

The strategy is implemented in tandem with the “volume model” and “filler work” marketing schemes where towers are promised a volume of work in specified area at agreed upon pricing, below market value, or agree to take work during slow times to keep their trucks moving, at similar subpar prices.

Both models are engineered money losers for the Towing Companies right from the start. They fall into this trap because they have no clue what it actually costs to run their equipment or their operation. All they see is money coming in and have no direct understanding how much is actually going out to run each specific call. Its charity work for billion dollar aggregators preying on those with no business acumen.

You get a slow day or two, agree to take work at a price lower than you would customarily consider and the rug slowly gets pulled from underneath you. Over time the prices slowly creep down until you tap out, or go broke. Everyone in the system is leveraged against each other simultaneously and every Tower loses.

Tow Truck Tech has partnered with Towing Software Provider, Dolooma, creating the Towing Industry's first dispatch integrated training resource solution, Dolooma Academy.

Dolooma Academy is building OEM-endorsed training designed specifically for Towers. Content on every model in a Manufacturers line up, supported annually moving forward.

What we have in motion will be a heavy lift for every OEM first year, so forward is where our sights are set. If we have our way we'll cover Medium and Heavy Truck too.

Where we are right now. DIRECT conversations with numerous OEM's and fleets started months ago, nearly all them without their Motor Club partners involved. New video content is currently in production, more video shoots scheduled for the coming months.

Dolooma Academy is key to improving safety, protecting customer experience, and reducing costly damages—without worrying about outdated training.

Created by industry expert and seasoned operator Chris Young, the training content focuses on vehicle-specific services, towing and equipment usage, and safety best practices. Integrated into Dolooma’s real-time dispatch and job management system, these training videos are now available instantly to drivers—by year, make, model, and service type.

“Training should come from the street, not a whiteboard,” said Chris Young, Founder of Tow Truck Tech. “These are manufacturer endorsed procedures for real situations—created by people who actually do the work.”

For towing providers, this means lower damage costs, safer operations, and complete digital records of which drivers have completed which trainings.

For motor clubs, it ensures consistent, scalable training that aligns with client expectations and compliance needs.

For OEMs, the platform can be used to train call center agents, send vehicle-specific pre-checklists, and deliver customer-facing videos when roadside support is initiated.

For equipment resellers like Zip's AW Direct, this partnership allows bundled, equipment-specific training to be delivered immediately upon sale.

“Chris brought the content. We brought the platform. Together, we’re changing how roadside education happens,” said Rajiv Amar, CEO of Dolooma

I want to thank the folks at Zip's AW Direct for getting a few trucks together for me to shoot some entry level instructional videos we are using in another project. More coming on that in the next week or so.

They turned out so well we decided to jam them on YouTube and let ‘em rip.

Towing Companies currently working with Roadside Protect, now would be a good time to firm up that relationship.

Bosch Service Solutions has acquired Roadside Protect, see attached.

This will create some interesting opportunities through 2025 in that they just might be next big player in the Motor Club space. Bosch currently has relationships with many large OEM’s, Roadside Protect decided to flex some muscle in 2024 and make a run at a global multi brand OEM. The desire and ability to pull this off collectively is more than just possible, it’s almost guaranteed. Especially with a few of the smaller Motor Clubs in financial peril and not likely to make it to 2026.

This is a perfect opportunity for Bosch/Roadside Protect to step back and reimagine Towing and Roadside moving forward to boundless success, or toe the current industry line and struggle.

The recipe for success and domination here is easy:
✅ Realistic pricing models to support more well heeled Service Providers
✅ Improve Motor Club relations with Towing Companies
✅ Harness technologies to deliver on ETA/ATA’s and CX for OEM/Insurance clients and Service Provider integrations
✅ Partner with Dolooma to provide OEM vehicle and service event specific support for Towing Operators

If they do exactly what the competition chooses to ignore, they’ll win.

Bosch has acquired U.S. company Roadside Protect, Inc. Service provider expands Bosch roadside assistance in the United States and Canada.
