Some of you may be aware but here is some Sad news about the passing of our friend, the one of a kind, NOLAN BROWN ---- Reposted from car city classic Geoff Walker --- if you knew NOLAN you loved him ... If so moved - please take a minute to post something about an encounter with the man here on fb ...
From Geoff: I learned last night that my friend Nolan Brown passed away a couple years ago. The cause (congestive heart failure) is not surprising, given his history of heart attacks and eating well, but it saddens me nonetheless. I have many fun stories of hanging out with Nolan, both at Car City Records where we met, and outside of work. My favorite, though, may be this:
I'm at work at the record store. Nolan says to me from across the room, "Geoffrey, I think you'd better take this call."
I pick up the phone. "This is Geoff, can I help you?"
The voice on the other end: "This is Lux Interior of The Cramps."
I look at Nolan, eyes wide. Nolan gives me a wide, slow grin from beneath his purple tinted glasses. Nolan's glasses were always purple, in honor of Prince.
"What can I do for you, Mr. Interior?"
"There is a recent series of CDs featuring early Detroit soul tracks....I'm hoping you have them and that someone from your store can bring them to our show tonight in Pontiac."
Thankfully, we had them. Needless to say, I went to Pontiac. Lisa and I met Lux and Poison, taunted Guitar Wolf after the show, and benefited from Nolan's choosing me to answer the phone.
Below is a pic of Nolan wearing Thomas Jackson Potter's glasses, Tom wearing Nolan's, and Patrick McShan (thanks for letting me know about Nolan, Pat) wearing his own, at Car City, 1997 or so.
Thanks, Nolan.
