Always love sharing the world of advanced manufacturing with young students!π§°βοΈ
This Friday, October 3rd, is National Manufacturing Day! With sponsorship from the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council, both the North Lawrence Community Schools and Mitchell Community Schools have collaborated to celebrate Manufacturing in Lawrence County. Nearly 400 students will spend the day touring local manufacturers and exploring STEM activities. Lawrence County, the City of Bedford, IN, and the City of Mitchell, Indiana have all issued proclamations declaring October 3rd as Manufacturing Day. In Lawrence County, manufacturing employs over 3,000 workers and is responsible for 14% of the workforce, as well as 25% of the wage distribution!
For Manufacturing Day, our 8th graders will have the chance to visit two manufacturers in Lawrence County and then roll up their sleeves and put their problem-solving skills to the test by building hydraulic claw kits at the Boys & Girls Club. Through this hands-on activity, students will learn how fluid power and engineering principles are used in real-world manufacturing and robotics. As they assemble, test, and adjust their claw designs, they will discover how creativity, teamwork, and STEM skills all come together to power the modern manufacturing industry.
