The list below shows the tentative scheduling moving through the spring / early summer

With regards to our Fiscal Year 2027 Paving Program, we have recently received notification from MassDOT and the Governor's Office that the City of Springfield will be receiving our annual Chapter 90 allotment in the amount of $5.019 million. With these funds and additional funds awarded from the State, the total target for the FY27 paving program is $6.5 million. Based upon current weather forecasts, the Department of Public Works is tentatively setting the start date for yard waste collection for Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Your yard waste will be collected that same day as your recycling so please plan accordingly. Yard waste will continue throughout the year up until early December. The rules and regulation for yard waste collection can be located here https://www.springfield-ma.gov/dpw/yard-waste

As a reminder, leaf bags that have been left out all winter will need to be re-bagged---there are a lot of them out there so do not be surprised when they are not collected.

The DPW will also be placing compost in the parking lot of Smead Arena for City residents, as we do every year. The date for placing the compost has not been set yet but will most likely start mid to late April.

***MISINFORMATION****

Between yesterday and today, we have received a number of calls from residents who did not put their trash out because they "googled" if trash collection was going to be delayed due to the storm on Monday, and the AI response stated that trash is being delayed by one day.

100% MISINFORMATION!!!!

If trash is ever delayed it will be posted on out page, website and also through the Mayor's Office of Communication.

*****Please be aware that when you try to google a statement like "Is Springfield's trash delayed?" you get the answer shown on the picture---that response is for Springfield, Missouri---not Springfield, Massachusetts! There are 50+ Springfield's in the United States---so please google correctly!

If your trash is missed due to following resident errors like this we will not come back to collet!

Thanks you for your assistance!

***ATTENTION RESIDENTS***

We have received some calls over the last week regarding the traffic light at the intersection of Pasco Road, Crosley St. and Page Boulevard being in flash mode for a week or so.

The traffic controller located behind the guiderail (shown in the photo below) was hit by a vehicle that was launched over the snowbank and guiderail and landed on the controller. We've included a photo of the damaged controller.

The DPW's Traffic Department has had to rebuild the controller cabinet from scratch that includes all new wiring, computerized controller and a development of a new signal timing plan. We've received comments such as "just buy a new controller"...... controllers are not stock items and every wire you see has to be completed by hand based upon the specific layout of the intersection, as there is a specific wire for each bulb at the intersection, as well as any pedestrian phases that need to be programmed.

The included photo shows the controller in our traffic shop going through required testing phases.

We hope to have the new controller installed as soon as possible following a successful testing phase.
