After 10 years sitting, our Porsche 911 996 finally came back to life! 🏁🔥

But the excitement quickly turned into concern when we discovered misfires on cylinders 3 and 6.

After sitting for that long, one of our biggest fears was internal engine damage or low compression.

So instead of guessing, we tested.

As you can see in the video, the compression gauge is showing around 150 PSI, with very consistent readings across all cylinders. That was a HUGE relief! 🙌

We also tested the injector signals using Noid Lights, confirming that the DME is sending injector pulses.

With good, even compression and injector pulse present, our attention is now turning toward stuck or clogged fuel injectors—a very real possibility after sitting for a decade with old fuel in the system.

We’re not celebrating just yet… but seeing those compression numbers definitely let us breathe a little easier.

One test at a time. One problem at a time. Bringing this 996 back to life. 🔧❤️

Saturday was rough for this 911 project. After almost ten years sitting, the engine finally ran, but the Tiptronic wouldn’t move in Drive or Reverse. New fluid, correct level, diagnostics, nothing. It felt like a full transmission teardown was coming. Today, after cycling Reverse and Drive over and over, it suddenly engaged. It moved through the gears on the lift, responded to manual shifts from the steering wheel, and then, I drove it around the parking lot. That short drive felt like a victory. Still a long road: misfire to diagnose, brake booster vacuum issue, power steering rack now leaking. But today, this 996 moves under its own power. One system at a time. They stole the catalytic converters. So we built our own.

This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 996 came to us with a rough history: it had been flooded, abandoned for years, vandalized… and somewhere along the way, someone cut off and stole the catalytic converters.

Replacing the complete exhaust with original Porsche components would mean spending thousands of dollars on a car we’re still bringing back to life.

So at Ami-Go Automotive, we chose another route:

Build it. 🔧🔥

Not by throwing some pipes underneath the car and calling it done.

We started with universal catalytic converters and pre-bent tubing. Then came the real work:

Measure.
Cut.
Test fit.
Trim again.
Rotate.
Reposition.
Check clearance.
Plan the O₂ sensor locations.
And repeat until everything sits where it belongs.

There’s no exhaust bending machine helping us create a perfect factory pipe. Every section has to be adapted by hand.

Now comes the delicate part: tack everything in its exact position on the car, remove the assemblies, and carefully finish the welds on the bench while controlling heat and distortion.

The objective isn’t simply to make the exhaust work.

We want someone looking underneath this Porsche later to have a hard time believing that its catalytic converters were ever stolen.

Restoration isn’t always about buying expensive original parts.

Sometimes it’s about engineering a solution with what you have—and taking enough pride in your work that the finished product doesn’t look like a shortcut.

We’ll see how these welds turn out. 😎🔥

The resurrection of our 996 continues.

This Porsche 911 was almost forgotten. We decided to bring it back. 🏁

Our 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 996 came to us in terrible condition: flooded, vandalized, partially dismantled and sitting for nearly 10 years.

It didn’t run. Parts were missing, electrical systems were dead, the interior was destroyed and several computers and components had been removed or damaged.

For many people, it was a parts car.

For us, it became a challenge. 🔧

Over the last few weeks we’ve been rebuilding it one system at a time.

We sourced and matched the DME, immobilizer and key, installed the Tiptronic control module, traced electrical problems, cleaned corroded connections and started bringing individual systems back online.

And finally, the 3.4L flat-six came back to life. 🔥

At first it would start and immediately stall. More diagnosis led us to a seized idle control valve. We freed it, tested it and today the engine starts and stays running.

We’re not finished.

Transmission, ABS, cooling fans, exhaust, interior, suspension and many other systems still need attention.

But that’s what this project is about.

At Ami-Go Automotive, we don’t just replace parts until something works. We diagnose, test and find the reason it doesn’t work.

One circuit. One component. One problem at a time.

This Porsche waited almost 10 years for another chance.

We’re giving it one. 🏁

Follow the journey.

Think Ami-Go Automotive only works on Porsches? Today, a Range Rover Sport had something to say—and we listened. 🔧

It came in with a Check Engine light, a low coolant level, and a visible coolant leak.

But plugging in a scanner and reading trouble codes is not a diagnosis.

At Ami-Go Automotive, we stabilized the vehicle’s voltage with professional Snap-on equipment, scanned every module with Opus IVS and the Topdon Phoenix Max, monitored the communication network through an OBD breakout box, reviewed DTC status and freeze-frame data, and pressure-tested the cooling system with Mac Tools equipment.

The pressure test proved that the cooling system could not hold pressure. After removing the necessary intake components for a clear inspection, we found an active coolant leak in the mechanical water-pump area.

Does replacing that water pump automatically fix every other code? No.

The codes involving the electric coolant pump, camshaft-position sensor, and oxygen sensor require their own testing. Replacing parts based only on a trouble code means gambling with the customer’s money.

Here, every code is a clue.
Every measurement is evidence.
And every recommended repair must have a reason.

At Ami-Go Automotive, we don’t guess, and we don’t fire the parts cannon.

We scan. We measure. We compare. We verify. We document. Then—and only then—do we recommend a repair.

Because professional diagnostics are not about saying, “We think this is the problem.”

They are about being able to prove it.

Two generations. Two personalities. Same Chevrolet soul. 🔥🇺🇸

Sitting at Ami-Go Automotive waiting for their turn to come back to life:

🛻 1970 Chevrolet C10 — V8 350

Every scratch, faded spot and imperfection has a story. That’s something you can’t order from a catalog.

These two C10s are about to begin their next chapter at Ami-Go Automotive.

Restore the machine. Preserve the soul. 🔧🔥

Which one would you choose?

1969 Stepside 6-cylinder or 1970 V8 350?
