New aftermarket glass or used OEM glass? πŸ€”

We had both options available for this Ford F-150, so the question is simple:

βœ… Brand new aftermarket windshield
or
βœ… Used OEM windshield removed from another vehicle

A lot of people automatically assume OEM is always the better choice, but is that really true?

There are pros and cons to both depending on the vehicle, condition of the glass, availability, and budget.

If this was YOUR truck, which one would you choose?

Who would have thought 🧐 that windshield wipers can be so advanced and technological!

06/15/2026

The Mercedes SL is packed with technology, and much of it is integrated around the windshield area. During replacement, trim pieces, sensors, moldings, and electronic components must be handled carefully to ensure everything goes back exactly as designed. Taking shortcuts on vehicles like this can lead to leaks, wind noise, damaged components, or calibration issues. Quality installation matters just as much as the glass itself.

Modern windshields are part of a vehicle's safety system. On this Tesla Model S, replacing the windshield required a camera calibration to align the vehicle's driver-assistance systems with factory specifications. Proper calibration helps maintain the accuracy of lane recognition, collision avoidance features, and other advanced safety technologies.

When this Hyundai Ioniq came in, the original windshield had a major crack! Interestingly, it had black frit painted for cameraβ€”but no camera! We made sure to install the correct glass that matches the vehicle’s actual VIN number. But have you seen this before?

Chip the Hedgehog πŸ¦” having breakfast before starting his day at work today, then decided to take a nap 😴

Chip is a four-toed hedgehog and the official shop pet at Ed's Auto Glass. While we're busy replacing windshields and repairing rock chips, Chip spends his days greeting customers, exploring the shop, and stealing the spotlight.

Four-toed hedgehogs are native to Africa, are mostly active at night, and can have anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000 quills! Despite their prickly appearance, they're curious, gentle animals and love to sniff out new adventures.

If you stop by the shop, don't be surprised if Chip becomes your favorite part of the visit. πŸ˜„

Cracked windshield? Before you pay out of pocket, know your rights.

Many South Carolina drivers don't realize that under South Carolina Code Β§38-77-280(B), if you carry comprehensive coverage, your insurance company generally cannot apply a deductible to safety glass claims.

That means windshield replacement may be covered without a deductible, depending on your policy.

Another important fact: Under South Carolina Code Β§38-57-75, you have the right to choose the auto glass shop that repairs or replaces your windshield. Your insurance company may recommend a shop, but the final decision is yours.

Modern windshields are more than just glass. Many vehicles have cameras and safety systems mounted to the windshield that require calibration after replacement to help ensure proper operation.

Always verify coverage with your insurance carrier, as coverage can vary by policy.

Laminated VS Tempered glass?! Today you find out the difference.

Laminated glass is designed to crack but stay intact, offering safety by holding together. Tempered glass is strong but, when it finally breaks, it shatters into tiny pieces. Both serve different safety purposes in your vehicle.
