This Saab came into Low Boost Performance for a full timing job — and if this engine looks a little familiar, there’s a reason!

These Saabs share a lot of similarities with the Subaru WRX platform, so tearing into this one felt pretty familiar around here. Timing components are one of those jobs you definitely don’t want to put off — keeping everything properly timed is critical to keeping the engine running strong and avoiding much bigger problems down the road.

⚠️ Looks small… but it’s a big problem. ⚠️

This Subaru WRX cylinder head came in with a gouge in the head gasket sealing surface. Damage like this prevents the head gasket from sealing properly, which can lead to:
❌ Coolant leaks
❌ Oil leaks
❌ Compression loss
❌ Repeat head gasket failure

No matter how good the gasket is, it can’t seal against a damaged surface. That’s why we take the time to inspect every cylinder head before reassembly. Catching issues like this now saves our customers from having to tear the engine back apart later.

At Low Boost Performance, we believe in doing the job right the first time—not taking shortcuts.

If your Subaru is overheating, losing coolant, or you’re already planning a head gasket job, make sure the cylinder heads are inspected before they go back on.
