It's been a couple months since we posted here, but that's going to change now. we'll be posting more often.
First, we're still moving forward with the Connecticut National Dragway project. It's a complicated and expensive project that requires countless details and steps to take. Long gone are the days where you could take a dozer, clear some land, pave a strip, and go racing. This is why we won't be open until sometime in 2016, and most likely just weekends for the first season.
So meanwhile, the new operators of the Speedbowl have approached HDRA to come back to run their Friday night Holeshot Drag program. We're going to accept that offer. We are delighted to come back to the 'Bowl for the 2015 season. Tentative opener is Friday night may 22nd.
We will be announcing the schedule in the next day or so here. While we will be doing mostly Friday nights, we do have a couple Sunday specials. On July 19th we will be bringing back the "Connecticut Dragwayfest 2", a Nostalgia Drag event with flag starts only, no tree. Included that day will be a themed car show, a Top Fuel Cacklefest, Swap Meet and more! It'll be huge!
We're also doing the "Motorcycle Mania" on Sunday August 9th. It'll include Motorcycle Drags as well as a Motorcycle Show, but we're also going to try to get a Stunt Show and a couple Nitro Harleys as well. Vendors will be welcome as well.
For those that have been with us in the past, you will be seeing many changes. We'll be using the same point system as IHRA. It just makes far more sense than what has been used in the past. The Comp cars will now be called Pro Eliminator, and they will be running for cash. Prize money will be determined by the number of cars in the field (purse structure will be posted in a day or so). We plan to add a 60' time on the time slip. Pro Eliminator will have a Second Chance Race for those that go out first round (2nd chance to win points and money). While we can't spray the track, we can still drag it. We're looking to build a tire drag to lay down racing rubber in the groove. We're also looking to have a power broom on hand as well.
The Bike class will remain essentially the same, but Street will have a couple changes. With some restrictions, Street will be allowed passengers. Helmets will be optional for cars going 3.00 seconds and slower. More details in the next day or so.
Other changes will be coming as well that will make our operation an entirely new and professional experience. Stay tuned!
