Diesel Truck Technician Apprenticeship Training Course
Why pay a tech school $35000 or more for training only to come out of school without the basic knowledge required to even perform a basic Preventive Maintenance Inspection service. We can help you achieve your training goal without the high cost and being in debt before you even begin your profession.
We are a heavy duty truck repair company in the South Plainfield area looking for individuals interested in our apprenticeship training program. The program will consist of 90% hands on training and 10% classroom work. As an apprentice you will be trained alongside our techs on the shop floor.
Your training will consist of the following.
• Training to acquire your Commercial Driver's License class A. (this is a necessary tech tool to be able to road test and diagnosis drivability issues with vehicles)
• Learn the different types of welding and cutting. (to include: MIG, TIG, Arc welding, plasma cutting and torch cutting)
• Performing DOT required inspections of vehicles and the proper paperwork involved.
• Perform Preventative Maintenance Inspections on all phases of heavy duty vehicles.
• Brakes, Electrical, Lighting, Transmission, Differential, Engine, Suspension and fabrication will be the topics covered.
• Learn the truck computer systems and how to use diagnostic computers to diagnosis engine codes and perform troubleshooting.
• This is a fast paced course for 1 year, you will be working alongside Techs in a real shop environment. The vehicles you will be working on will be repaired and put back in service. (not like Tech School where the job has been disassembled and reassembled hundreds of times, you will learn on vehicles that are in service.)
• Learn the proper use of basic air tools, hand tools and specialty tools.
Our ideal candidates are as follows:
• Newly graduated from a Technical High School from their Auto Tech program.
• Clean driving record.
• Must have own transportation (not dropped off and picked up)
• Must be highly motivated to learn
• Positive Attitude
• Works well with others
• Already enjoy working on cars.
This is a 1 year intense course, you must be prepared to fully participate and attendance is mandatory. The course consists of 8-9 hour days Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm. As a candidate you will be required to do the following pretest screening.
• Complete employment application
• Basic mechanical proficiency testing
• Standard employment drug testing
• DOT physical
• Writing proficiency test
As an Apprentice you will be supplied the following:
• Uniforms
• Basic tools that you will own at the completion of course
• Excellent training and learning opportunities not available from a Technical School.
As an Apprentice you will receive basic tools that will be yours to keep after completing the course. Upon completion of the course you will be ready to join the workforce as a valuable employee with above basic knowledge to begin your career as a Diesel Technician. You will have experienced the real world application of the tasks that are trained and the ability to effectively implement your training in a real world setting. You will understand the importance of working efficiently and neatly to insure that the job is completed in a timely manner. You will experience the hardships that arise during actual repairs and how to handle unexpected circumstances.
This is a pilot program designed to streamline training and job proficiency. Too many times we have had employment applicant's right out of Technical schools that did not have the basic knowledge needed to perform the minimal repairs and inspections of vehicles. We are trying to give the right individuals an opportunity to learn the trade in the environment that they will be working in. In the near future this will not be a free apprentice program, but tuition based paid training program.
