Nissenbaum's Auto Parts Recycling since before recycling was even a word. Nissenbaum's has been recylcing since before recycling was a word. He sorted & delivered goods by horse & cart.

Jacob Nissenbaum opened the business in 1910. He & his employees collected bones from the slaughterhouses in the area (used for soap), scrap iron & rags. His son Joseph came into the business in 1929 & modernized. He sold the horses & carts, bought trucks for deliveries & expanded the business by purchasing cars for their scrap value. In 1937 Jacob retired, & his son Joseph passed away. The third generation, Joseph's son Max, was now owner & manager.
1941 saw the addition of an electric press for baling newspaper that was sent back to the mills to be reused in new paper. Starting in 1955 customers were able to remove the parts they needed from the vehicles on the property. The fourth generation recyclers, Joseph (1966) & Allen (1968) began to recycle automobile parts in earnest. Max retired in 1979. And Neil, the fifth generation, joined the company full-time in 1989. All of the Nissenbaum "boys" started working at the same location that the company started at from the age of 10. Today Nissenbaum's deals primarily in older salvage. Vehicles are totally dismantled according to a list of Hollander numbers. All parts are tagged for inventory control with the Aims system. Parts are racked, shelved, inventoried & readily available to customer. Frames are crushed here in our yard & sold for recycling. Nothing goes to waste!
