🚨 BRAND NEW RV OR USED RV — IT DOESN’T MATTER! WATER DAMAGE DOESN’T DISCRIMINATE! 🚨
💦 YOUR RV NEEDS PROPER SEALANT INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE FROM THE DAY YOU BUY IT!
At Inside Out RV LLC, we have spent years repairing RVs with extensive water damage. We’ve seen rotted floors, damaged walls, deteriorated slide-outs, delamination, and structural damage that can cost RV owners THOUSANDS of dollars to repair.
And you know what’s frustrating?
A LOT OF THIS DAMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED!
So many of these expensive repairs started with something as simple as deteriorated caulking, an improperly sealed window, a leaking gutter rail, loose screws, or a small opening around an exterior component.
Something that could have been caught and corrected before water ever had the opportunity to cause serious damage.
🏕️ JUST BOUGHT A BRAND NEW RV? PLEASE READ THIS!
One of the biggest misconceptions in the RV industry is that a brand-new RV doesn’t need its sealants inspected or maintained.
WRONG!
Just because your RV rolled off the manufacturer’s assembly line doesn’t mean every seal, seam, window, roof pe*******on, gutter rail, or slide-out is properly protected.
We’ve seen factory sealant applications with problems, missing sealant, improperly sealed components, and areas that should have received more attention during manufacturing.
And here’s something many RV owners don’t realize:
⚠️ MANUFACTURERS AND DEALERSHIPS GENERALLY PLACE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ROUTINE SEALANT INSPECTIONS AND MAINTENANCE ON THE RV OWNER FROM THE DAY OF PURCHASE!
Yes, even when your RV is brand new!
Read your owner’s manual and warranty information. Many manufacturers require regular inspections of roof sealants, windows, exterior seams, and other areas susceptible to water intrusion.
Failing to follow those maintenance requirements can affect warranty coverage.
Don’t assume that because your RV is under warranty, every water intrusion repair will automatically be covered!
🔧 PROPER RV SEALING IS MORE THAN JUST SQUEEZING CAULK OUT OF A TUBE!
At Inside Out RV, we believe in doing things correctly the first time.
✅ Using the proper sealants for the specific materials and applications.
✅ Removing failed or deteriorated sealant when necessary instead of simply covering it up.
✅ Inspecting roof seams, corner moldings, gutter rails, windows, doors, exterior fixtures, and slide-outs.
✅ Checking for missing or improperly installed sealing materials.
✅ Inspecting screws, fasteners, and mounting hardware for corrosion, looseness, and possible moisture exposure.
✅ Identifying potential water intrusion before it turns into structural damage.
✅ Following manufacturer recommendations and proper preparation procedures.
NOT ALL CAULKING PRODUCTS ARE CREATED EQUAL!
Using the wrong sealant can create additional problems, including adhesion failures, material incompatibility, and premature deterioration.
And putting new sealant over failing, contaminated, or improperly prepared surfaces isn’t necessarily fixing anything!
🚨 DON’T BELIEVE US? TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS! 🚨
These are real examples of the things we come across while working on RVs at Inside Out RV LLC!
Look closely at what you’re seeing.
💦 Deteriorated, cracking, and separating sealant.
💦 Openings around exterior trim and slide-out components where water can potentially enter.
💦 Areas where old sealant has failed and is no longer providing the protection it should.
🔩 AND PLEASE, DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE SCREWS!
Here’s something many RV owners don’t realize:
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR SCREWS AND FASTENERS!
When we remove exterior trim, slide-out components, windows, or other parts, we pay attention to the condition of the screws.
Why?
Because rusty or corroded screws can be an early warning sign of moisture exposure behind exterior surfaces!
Rust doesn’t automatically mean you have structural damage, but it is absolutely something that should be investigated.
Water can travel behind trim, along screws, through improperly sealed fastener holes, and into areas you cannot see.
YOUR RV CAN LOOK ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE WHILE WATER DAMAGE IS DEVELOPING UNDERNEATH!
That’s why we don’t just look at the exterior caulking and call it good.
We inspect the areas where water can enter, and when necessary, investigate what is happening behind the components.
And here’s another important thing:
JUST BECAUSE SOMEBODY PUT CAULKING ON IT DOESN’T MEAN THEY SEALED IT CORRECTLY!
Proper preparation, product selection, adhesion, and application are extremely important.
💰 PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE IS FAR LESS EXPENSIVE THAN REBUILDING A ROTTED RV!
We cannot tell you how many RVs we’ve worked on over the years where a relatively small maintenance issue turned into a major repair because water intrusion went unnoticed.
We’ve worked on RVs that needed entire slide-out floors rebuilt, structural components replaced, damaged walls repaired, and extensive water intrusion corrections.
And many of these situations could have been avoided with proper inspections and maintenance.
OUR ADVICE TO EVERY RV OWNER:
Whether you’re purchasing a $15,000 used travel trailer or a $200,000 brand-new motorhome, have the entire exterior sealing system professionally inspected as soon as you take ownership.
If something needs to be resealed, get it corrected with the proper products and procedures.
Don’t wait until you see water dripping inside.
Don’t wait until your floor feels soft.
Don’t wait until your walls start delaminating.
BY THE TIME YOU NOTICE WATER DAMAGE INSIDE YOUR RV, IT MAY HAVE BEEN DEVELOPING FOR MONTHS OR EVEN YEARS!
And remember, RV sealants require ongoing inspections and maintenance.
One resealing job does not mean your RV is protected forever.
Especially here in the Pacific Northwest, where rain, moisture, temperature changes, and seasonal weather conditions make preventative maintenance extremely important.
