Back to Back
BACK. TO. BACK. — AND MARCUS BUTNER IS NOW IN CONTROL OF THE PDRA PRO NITROUS CHAMPIONSHIP.
Marcus Butner and the Butner Motorsports team are heading to the PDRA World Finals with incredible momentum after scoring their second consecutive Pro Nitrous victory, this time in front of friends and family at Darana Motorsports Park in Benson, North Carolina.
Behind the wheel of the familiar “Heartbreaker” ’69 Camaro, Butner put together another championship-caliber weekend. After qualifying second with a 3.631-second pass, the team continued to get stronger as eliminations progressed, knocking off Brian Teachman, Tim Paap and Brian Shrader before meeting Amber Denton in the final.
And when the championship was on the line, Butner delivered the quickest Pro Nitrous run of the entire weekend.
3.628 seconds at 209.20 mph.
That was enough to get the win over Denton’s 3.643-second, 207.46-mph pass and give Butner his second straight PDRA victory.
But this one meant more than just another Wally.
The Benson victory vaulted Butner into the Pro Nitrous points lead, putting the 2025 champion in position to defend his title with one race remaining.
The timing couldn't be better.
After a challenging stretch earlier in the season, the Butner Motorsports team has found serious performance at exactly the right time. The combination of the Pat Musi Racing Engines power and Jay Cox tuning has turned the “Heartbreaker” into one of the quickest cars in the class, and the results are impossible to ignore.
Butner’s team also made it clear that this championship chase is about much more than the driver.
In their words, God gets all the glory, while family, friends, sponsors and the entire Butner Motorsports crew continue to provide the support necessary to keep chasing another championship.
The team specifically recognized the people and companies helping make this run possible, including Red Line Oil, Precision Shaft Technologies, Race Star Wheels, Pat Musi Racing Engines, Ty-Drive, Liberty's Gears, Kinetic Engineering, JP Track Specialties, Modern Racing and Victory Vinyls.
And there was an extra-special element to the Benson win.
It was a home-track victory surrounded by friends and family from home.
Those are the wins that stay with a team — the ones where all the long hours, testing, tuning, travel and hard work come together with the people closest to the program watching from the sidelines.
Now comes the biggest test of all.
Butner heads to Virginia Motorsports Park leading the PDRA Pro Nitrous standings, riding a two-race winning streak and chasing something even bigger:
A three-peat of victories.
Back-to-back wins.
Points leader.
One race remaining.
One championship to defend.
Marcus Butner has put himself exactly where every racer wants to be heading into the finale — in control of his own championship destiny.
Can the “Heartbreaker” finish the job and give Butner back-to-back PDRA Pro Nitrous championships?
The World Finals are going to be something special. ❤️🔥
