Got a call from an older gentleman today. His 6.7 Cummins engine failed, so he bought a used replacement engine and had someone install it.

He was told that because the replacement engine came out of a deleted truck, his truck also had to be deleted. That's simply not true.

Unfortunately, he didn't fully understand what was being done, and now he's dealing with a poorly executed delete and a truck that's giving him all kinds of problems.

As shop owners and technicians, we have a responsibility to educate our customers, especially when they're trusting us with decisions they may not fully understand. Just because someone doesn't know the technical side doesn't mean it's okay to make decisions for them or leave out important information.

Take the extra few minutes. Explain the options. Explain the risks. Explain the costs.

We work in an industry built on trust. Let's do better.
