AFM Disablers: Are You Doing More Harm Than Good?

Many GM truck and SUV owners install plug-in AFM (Active Fuel Management) disablers to keep their engines running on all eight cylinders. While these devices may seem like a simple solution, they aren't necessarily the best approach.

Plug-in AFM disablers alter how the vehicle operates without properly recalibrating the engine and transmission software. Depending on the device and application, this can create unintended issues involving shift behavior, torque management, drivability, and diagnostic functions.

A professionally performed calibration, on the other hand, can account for how the engine and transmission work together, helping maintain proper shift scheduling, torque management, and overall drivability.

Not every AFM disabler will cause damage, but installing one without understanding its effects can potentially create more problems than it solves. And remember, disabling AFM does not repair existing mechanical problems with AFM lifters.

Sad day in Sioux Falls .

Passing of Deputy Katherine Frank -

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office announces with profound sadness the passing of Deputy Katherine Frank, age 26, earlier today. Deputy Frank was surrounded by her family and loved ones in her final moments. In her final act of service and generosity, she became an organ donor, continuing to help others even in her passing. Katherine worked at the South Dakota State Penitentiary from September 2022 until being hired with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office in June 2024.

Deputy Frank’s death is a significant loss to our agency and to the broader law enforcement community in and around Sioux Falls. She served the citizens of Minnehaha County with professionalism, humility, and dedication. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who have had the privilege of working alongside her.

A memorial has been established at the Law Enforcement Center located at 320 W. 4th St., Sioux Falls, SD, for those who wish to pay their respects. The Sheriff’s Office will also continue maintaining a presence at the hospital as we support her family during this difficult time.
Further information regarding funeral services, honors, and departmental arrangements will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Deputy Frank served with dignity and heart. Her service made a meaningful difference, and her impact will remain with us always.

THINKING ABOUT BUYING A REMAN TRANSMISSION ONLINE?
That low internet price can look like a great deal… until you add up the REAL cost.

• CORE CHARGE – That advertised price may not include the core charge.

• TOTAL PRICE – Add the core, shipping and other charges and you may find the price isn’t much different than buying locally from a transmission specialist like Jim’s.

• INSTALLATION – That transmission still has to get into the vehicle. Either you’re doing it yourself or paying a shop to install it.
