Something happened today that made this whole road to Summernats feel real.
I finished the rear main seal, took the service truck on its first real test drive to lunch, and while we were waiting on food, a guy walking out stopped and said, “Good luck if you make it to Summernats.”
That alone caught me off guard because I’ve only been recognized one other time, and that was at an event.
Then when we went to pay, the waitress told us he had already covered our bill and said to put it toward gas for the trip.
I started posting all this just to document the journey, but moments like that make me realize other people are actually on this journey with me.
Whoever you are, thank you. It meant more than you probably realize. If you see this, message me. I’ve got stickers for you, and probably a shirt too.

I didn’t feel like doing this rear main seal today.
Honestly, it was the last thing I wanted to mess with. But on the way back from lunch I had to check myself.
I’m working for myself, on my own stuff, on a Thursday afternoon.
Not sitting in a truck wishing I was somewhere else.
Not punching a clock.
Not building someone else’s future while putting mine aside.
Some days the dream is dirty, annoying, and uncomfortable.
But it’s mine.
And that makes all the difference.

Just when I thought the service truck was finally about ready, it decided to remind me this whole journey was never supposed to be easy.
Fixed the dead cylinder, got the 6.0 running good, got the tail lights installed… then found oil pouring out of the bellhousing. Rear main seal pushed out, so now the transmission had to come back out.
This truck is supposed to be the next big step for Peck N Pull Auto. More room for tools, better setup for mobile jobs, and hopefully the truck that helps get Shell Shocked to Summernats.
But this is the reality behind building a business and chasing something bigger at the same time. It’s not always clean, easy, or convenient. Sometimes it’s laying under a truck in the dirt, holding a rear main seal, wondering how many times one project can fight back.
Good thing I’m too stubborn to quit.

I don’t know if I’m motivated or just too stubborn to quit.
I finally fixed the dead cylinder, got the 6.0 running good, got the tail lights installed, and honestly thought the service truck was about ready to go.
Then I found oil pouring out of the bellhousing… and the rear main seal is literally pushed out.
So now the transmission has to come back out.
But I’d rather find it now than loaded down with tools and Shell Shocked heading through the mountains.
At what point would you have quit?

Found oil filters at Rural King for 91 cents each that say they fit an LS… so naturally I bought every one they had.
They’re Prime Guard filters, and I’ve honestly never used them before, so I don’t know if this was a great deal or a warning sign.
They should fit both Shell Shocked and the service truck, but before I trust them too much, I may cut one open and see what’s actually inside.
Would you run a 91-cent oil filter on your LS, or would you not risk it?

Today’s one of those days where I’m only a few hours away from making big progress on my own projects.
Shell Shocked is close. The service truck is close.
But Peck N Pull Auto comes first.
Customers are depending on me today, and this business is the reason any of this is even possible.
First we take care of business… then we get back to chasing the dream. 🔧

“Just one more pull for the camera…” 🤦‍♂️

Throwback to getting Shell Shocked tuned after I first built it. Three or four good pulls, everything going great… then we decided to record one more.

The driveshaft broke and took the Powerglide with it.

So if you’re wondering why the vibration I’m chasing now has me worried… this is why. 😅 Follow along as we get ready for Summernats!

The broken head bolt I thought might ruin the block ended up being one of the easiest extractions I’ve ever done. 😅

I drilled a centered pilot hole with the smallest left-hand bit, moved up one size, and the bit grabbed the bolt and backed it straight out—no extractor needed! About $30 and a few hours later, Shell Shocked’s engine is completely back together.

Now I just have to wrap the exhaust, reinstall the turbo kit, and find out if she still runs. Only 18 days until Summernats. 🔥

Have you ever had a broken bolt come out this easily?

08/30/2026

I was one bolt away from getting Shell Shocked back together… then bolt #9 snapped during the final torque sequence. Now it’s sitting about an inch below the deck, and the freshly installed head has to come right back off. 😬

Lesson learned: don’t gamble by reusing questionable head bolts. It’ll be OEM-quality bolts or studs from here on out.

A broken bolt doesn’t mean we failed. It’s just one more problem to solve. You can’t fail if you never quit.

Follow along to see whether I can extract it without damaging the block.
