Buildings on Grand-Place Square in Brussels, Belgium
Buildings on Grand-Place Square in Brussels, Belgium
Few squares in Belgium wear history as well as the Grand Place. The surrounding buildings, seen here, began as guild houses, each funded by a specific trade. Brewers, bakers, merchants, and craftsmen treated architecture as language, translating work, status, and rivalry into stone through reliefs, coats of arms, and generous gold leaf. Styles meet without caution. Gothic verticals rise beside Baroque curves, while the Town Hall, older than its neighbors and unapologetically asymmetrical, holds the composition together.

That unity, however, was forged under pressure. Most of the structures standing today rose from the ashes after 1695, when a French bombardment erased the medieval center. The city responded by rebuilding quickly and boldly, turning destruction into a tightly choreographed urban reply. Life returned quickly: markets, public spectacles, royal ceremonies, festivals, and the famous flower carpet have all taken their turn here. Centuries later, the square keeps its civic pulse. UNESCO calls it heritage. Brussels calls it home—and its most confident self portrait.

Juniper Ridge Resort Bulletin

Good Morning Thursday, June 25th
Good Morning!

We had a nice rain over night and it looks like it might continue a little this morning. What a nice evening we had last night at the Wine Social. A Big Thank You to Sue, Schmitty, Leta and the whole crew for hosting this event. The Fashion show was funny, unique and completely unexpected. They have some entertainment plans for next month, so sign up and show up!

Let's chat about signing up and showing up. The crews who set up for these events work hard. From moving tables and chairs, sometimes several times a day, to the volunteers, who spend time decorating, planning and making sure everyone has a good time.
We expect not everybody will show up, even when the event is a paid ticket. When that happens it is not a big loss financially, but we end up throwing food away, which is never ok. For activity events, that are just for sign ups, like the Wine Social, Ladie's Lunch, Workshops, Trivia ect....it can be costly to our community and to anyone bringing food/snacks in. For example, last night we worked from a sign up list of 151 residents and guests. Thats 20 round tables and 160 chairs, 20 tablecloths, 20 centerpieces and then an additional 6 long tables and chairs. It's a big set up and a lot of time and work go into it. 7 tables were empty or appx 42 people. Please be considerate if you cannot make an event you have signed up for, just come take your name off the list. Activities, where someone is prepping for food or bringing in treats and prizes such as the Ladies Lunch, Trivia and free lunch workshops, can be costly to not only the community but for the folks holding the event. This is a problem that seems to continue throughout the year. Life get's busy, we understand... Please, if you sign up, show up or scratch your name.

So what is going on over the next few days?

The golf group let me know that their lunch is not going to be until July, so for this one...don't show up LOL. The Patio is open today.

1:00 pm The Woodshop is having an open meeting of members and interested people today! Meet at the Woodshop

Lunch was a great success yesterday, so we are cooking more this morning, since we almost sold out. If you didn't get a chance to try our Chicken Lettuce Wraps with Rice and an Oriental Salad, today is your last chance. We are open from 11:30 - 12:30 pm or until we sell out.

Tonight at 6 pm we have Bingo in the Lodge, doors open at 5:00 pm with ice cream for sale at the break.

Friday June 26th at 1 pm - It is the Annual Board Meeting in the Lodge. We will have an ice cream sandwich for you at the end of the meeting. (Chair Volleyball is canceled due to meeting)

Saturday at 10:00 until appx 2 pm - It's the National Hand Radio Field Day. Check out this group and see what it's all about! Grassy area near the lodge.

Sunday - 10:00 Churxch Services in the Lodge

There is also a private party on the Patio from 3pm - 7 pm, please plan around that.

Have a great weekend everyone and we hope to see you at Morning Coffee and Donuts on Monday, June 29th at 8:00 am

Blessings, Deb
