Long before digital paint systems, Gene Winfield was creating transitions by hand, blending candy colors across custom cars with a technique that became known as the “Winfield Fade.” 🎨🔥

Developed in the late 1950s, the technique became one of Winfield’s signatures — smoothly transitioning one color into another while following the lines and contours of the body.

His legendary Jade Idol, a customized 1956 Mercury, helped put his work on the national map and made the fade paint style part of his identity as a custom-car builder.

Gene Winfield showed that custom paint wasn't simply about adding color.

It was about using color to shape the way a car was seen.
