Stock Market Today: 10-Year Treasury Yield Hits Fresh Multiyear High
Oil rises above $100 for first time since July amid escalating Mideast conflict

✅Treasury yields are rising to new highs as traders digest details from the Treasury Department's expanded bond buyback program. The 10-year yield approached 4.85%, its highest level since 2023, after Treasury said it would buy back up to $6 billion in longer-term debt. Some expected a larger buyback, which could have calmed yields down a bit more.

✅U.S. stock indexes are trending lower, with the Dow leading losses again.

👉In energy, oil crossed the $100-a-barrel threshold this morning after a fresh round of strikes in the Middle East. The U.S. destroyed four Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island yesterday, following attempts by Tehran to strike American warships.

Live updates on markets and the top finance, economics and business stories. Plus the latest on oil prices, the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq.

Anthropic researcher quits 'out of control' AI race with chilling warning it could 'kill all humans' by 2030

An Anthropic staffer has quit his job and issued a chilling warning over the rapid progress in Al which he fears could kill humanity as soon as 2030.

Jacob Coxon, a researcher for OpenAI and Anthropic, the companies behind chatbots ChatGPT and Claude, announced he exited the business in a social media post on Tuesday and warned that neither company is 'acting responsibly.'

'I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives,' Coxon wrote on X.

Superintelligence is the point at which an artificial system becomes more powerful than any individual, company or even nation.

The former researcher of three years continued to plead with the public on X: 'Do not underestimate the power of this technology.'

'These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing,' he wrote.

'The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt.'

Jacob Coxon gave a chilling warning that superintelligence is set to kill humanity by the end of the decade as he quit working for Anthropic.
